Christmas isn't about the gifts we recieve but spending time with family and friends during the holidays. I'm sure they'll understand, and if you still want to get them something, why not make something if your crafty? My mother asked me to make her a rug for christmas (since I can weave) and my grandmother wants potholders for christmas. It's the heart that counts, not the materialness or money.

The spirit of Christmas is often lost if a person impales themselves on self-incrimination due to society's tangible offerings expected or anticipated at this particular time of year. The giving of one-self is the most respected present through simple communication via telephone, computer e-mail or the dispatch of an e-card from say Hallmark or American Greetings.Happyness and love are given through personal contact and not through the expression of a tangible item.Express love and joy not by the size of your wallet or financial condition, but what is in your heart.

You are a college student, that is fine--try giving everybody a gift of the heart----a Gift Certificate from you example: to mom-I will watch 5 movies with you this year--Dad-I will wash the car 5 times this year--get the message :)

I think that a lot of students go through that (I know I told my family that I'M The present... just me being there lol). If you feel like giving something still, perhaps baking some cookies or sending cards would show the gesture you wish to send.

Your gift could be your presence for Xmas and help them. Do anything in your power to bring in happiness on this occasion. Christmas has been commercialized its not your fault you feel this way, just be part of the fun. that is real christmas!

It's perfectly acceptable. Family and friends should know college students struggle financially and should not hesitate to tell you you're far more important than any presents.

yeah, i guess so. I mean, you might want to say sorry, and make them cookies or something so that they know you honestly tried.
But they're your friends, they should understand

Yep. But announce that you don't expect anything either, for that reason.
Your parents will probably hook you up anyway.
