I worry, too. There was a special on 60 Minutes about McD's buying their beef from other countries that don't test for mad cow, or even wash their hands after going to the toilet, then returning to the processing line. Yes, the USDA inspects the meat here. But does an inspection actually visually tell us what we need to know? Look at the country on the a can of corned beef. I can tell you already it will either be Brazil or Argentina. Neither have the same requirements we do. Sorry - if you don't know what country the beef comes from, I say don't eat it.

Yes. But you should be worried because the Beef Lobby will lie just to sell beef. There is mad cow disease here, as a friend of mine passed away from it. The U.S. government is just not honest about it is all; unlike Europeans who took care of it. It is mostly however, in the offal meat, such as brains, kidneys and major organs of the beef. It is caused by poor feed, which is actually infected beef ground up and fed back to cattle.

All foods are USDA inspected, not just in restaurants, but grocery stores as well. I'd worry more about the drivers on the highway.
