Ok so my aunt won't leave me alone about getting a boyfriend. I am 27 yrs. old and have a 6 yr. old daughter. I enjoy being single and having a guy just as a friend. She keeps jumping on me about being single and trying to find someone to settle down with. What is wrong with just being friends with someone? Why do I have to have a steady boyfriend?

You are right you do not need a boyfiend if you are not ready. Just politely ask her to stop. Let her know someday you will but at the current time you just are not interested. She is just trying to do what all natural relatives will do. Hook you up when you are not interested or ready. LL.

I think your aunt is stuck in the conventional ideal of what a family should be. She may think that it is best for you to have a man by your side - and for your daughter to have some sort of a 'father figure' - who can play the role of the 'man of the house' ... and she cannot see you heading towards this direction by simply having a platonic (or otherwise) relationship with a guy friend. She just worries for you in the long term ;)

Nothing's wrong with what you have right now, though; I just hope that your aunt realizes that in this day and age, leading a great family life does not necessarily require two parents - sometimes, having just one responsible, loving and caring mom would suffice.

All the best, Mandy!

you don't have to have a steady boyfriend. next time she asks why you don't have one ask her why she wants to know. that should shut her up
