I could almost scream in frustration at some of the answers given already!

Head lice do not live in your sheets, pillows, toys etc etc. If washing stuff was going to fix this case of head lice it would have worked by now don't you think?

Head lice live on human heads and nowhere else. That is all you need to treat by removing every thing that doesn't belong there ie the lice and eggs.

The recurrence of lice over and over is a sure sign that your treatments so far have only been reducing the numbers to a low level but not clearing them out completely. It then takes a week for an egg that was left behind to hatch. Another week for these new hatch lings to mature and start laying eggs. A week later the fist wave of the new generation hatch out and the numbers rocket! 2-3 week gap! Happens over and over.

I have posted two links to detailed explanations of this myths below.

Good luck

If you call her doctor he can prescribe a anti-lice shampoo that is stronger then over the counter kind. After using the shampoo you can put vinegar in her hair to help loosen the eggs. It does take a long time to comb out every hair on her head but you really have to get all the eggs out or they will just return, and also make sure you follow the directions on the shampoo exactly. My neighbor had a problem with them and her daughter kept getting them back from someone, so after getting rid of them with the prescribed shampoo she bought a bottle of over the counter kind and poured it into a bottle of the shampoo her daughter used every day and she has not had them again. I know it can be very frustrating and time consuming but if you make sure that there is no eggs left in her hair and you make sure that you clean everything that she has come in contact with since she has had them I am sure that the problem will go away.

my little sister use to have a bad head lice problem, my mom tried everything. After the shampoos, hair dye, and even perming her hair we ended up having to pick and comb (a lice comb) every strand of her hair to get all of the eggs and bugs out. We washed the sheets, blankets and everything else as well as sprayed the house with the stuff to kill lice and bugs (bug bombed the house) and every day picked through her hair and finally it was gone. She has to keep her hair really clean and she uses the lice shampoo every week or 2 just to be safe. It sucked having to go through every strand of her hair everyday for hours but finally it all paid off and she hasn't had a problem with it again. The news said that the lice out there now is immune to the shampoos and you just have to pick and comb tit out (wash everything alot). Oh yeah I saw that there were places out there like hair clinics for getting rid of lice. Check maybe the ABC news.com or another news site and research it there, I cannot remember which news station did the report on it., sorry. Hope my info helps though.
Good luck!

I got lice when I was little. Smothered hair in olive oil and left it on for anhour. This supposedly smothers the lice and nsaturates the eggs, drowning/suffocating them as well.

I know from experience that a person who eats a couple of fist sized raw garlic heads each day will not be bothered by mosquitoes, fleas, ticks, mange mites.

Also, I was told that any bloodsucker hates the smell of eucalyptus oil.

And I know that putting a small amount of eucalyptus oil in the wash will kill dust mites in the sheets and pillows/pillowcases.

That is all I have.

So far we have not had this problem, but it could happen to anyone. Our school nurse sent out some info about lice, how to check for and how to treat. It said that some lice have become immune to certain chemicals used in lice shampoos. She may need to do some research on lice killing methods to find what will work for her.

What works,

Mayonaise (not non-fat)
vaseline (dish soap removes grease and vaseline)
kerosine (this burns a little, do not get in eyes)

What helps,

shower every day, not bath
lice and nit comb after each shower
blow dry hair
spray couches, mattresses, and chairs
wash all clothes immediately after wearing
wash sheets every other day
isolate stuffed animals and pillows for two and a half weeks
change pillow cases every day
carefully check each family members hair (best light is from sun)
carefully check each hairpiece before and after use
boil brushes and hairpieces every other night

If all else fails, get a perm or color hair

Good luck to your cousin!

Not only do you have to use the shampoo, you have to wash all sheets, bedding, pillowcases and towels. Vacuum any furniture you have come in contact with. Put all stuffed animals in trash bags for several days. I used a warm iron on bare pillows and the mattress. Got rid of them the first time around.

peace

she has to wash all bed clothes and clothes plus use the hair shampoo for lice. If she doesn't get the lice from her bed clothes then she will always have them little itchy critters!

tell her to wash everything, get the carpet scrubed, use Nix, and then use it two or three days later... wash bedding everynight for a week, and make sure to keep everything sanitized

Have her parents color her hair (same color), the hair color will kill the head lice.
