Just some sort of sea monster, most people assume a whale.

Hi Isaac D. The Laviathan mentioned in Job is Satan. If we read Isaiah 27:1 God gives us a clear picture who Laviathan is:

"In that day the LORD with His severe sword, great and strong, Will punish Leviathan the fleeing serpent, Leviathan that twisted serpent; And He will slay the reptile that is in the sea."

In this verse God is telling us about Judgment Day when He will condem Satan to Hell. The sword He discribes is the Truth, the Gospel.

Don't have my Bible handy. There is one reference to Leviathan I read the other day.
It called him the wicked serpent. But the Bible isn't perfect.
I think you're referring to the one where it talks about scales, and claws. Myself,
I think it's describing a dragon. Dragons, unicorns and satyrs are mentioned in
Isaiah 32, somewhere around there. KJV.
But it could all be metaphorical describing evil. Since Lucifer was a Morning Star
according to the Bible. A light being.
Ever read any Gnosticism. That gets wild.
Says Satan was a lesser god created by a Morning Star when it went off to create on its own. It was actually a serpent form, like lightning. Jesus said he saw Lucifer
fall like lightning from heaven. Who knows what it all means. I think a lot of it
is taught in story fashion. Because people couldn't understand simple things like
magnetism and cosmic rays, and whatever back then.
Know what I'm saying?

Not a Christian, myself, but a dragon lover and I heard that the Leviathan and the Behemoth were sort of the ruling creatures of the world. They were supposed to be the largest two animals ever created, and only one of each.

The Leviathan was a sea-dwelling creature, and the Behemoth was of the land.

I'm not sure exactly what it says in the Bible, but most people picture the Leviathan as the other person said, a large whale, and others picture it as a snake-like sea serpent so it varies.

Found this link when I searched Yahoo! Answers for Leviathan. It has a lot of quotes from the Book of Job, maybe it can help!

The first mention by name is scripture of Leviathan is in the book of Job chapter 3 verse 8.

The leviathan is an aquatic reptile (similar to dinosaurs).

No living animal fits the physical description of the Levaithan. For ideas of what this creature looked like we must turn to Job chapter 41

A type of dinosaur of the dragon family. Lives in the sea like the Lock Ness monster. You can find out more about this at Kent Hovind's web site. He is a creation scientist who claims that Laviathin is a dinosaur.

Leviathan seems to be a description of a dinosaur--what ancient peoples referred to as a dragon.

Some creationists believe that it's the Bible referencing an underwater dinosaur.
