God is both and everything else you can see, hear, think, do and are!

You said specifically "God" . You did not say "The Creator" The Creator is Male, Female, The All Person, is Everywhere, within all, the Person of all, ...God, (Real God, not a false god like what began the world's current 4 false religions) was appointed by the Creator for a time and place, is Male OR Female, the same gender he/or she was either on this earth or some other such place, and has had the benefit of schooling and learning for perhaps thousands of years. He can do things you could not begin to imagine (from the stage where you are now). You cannot not now with your mortal eyes see a God. He/she would be too bright for you to actually see. (You may have many changes ahead of you, too!)

I envision god as fiction and/or myth. How can a mother or father know what their children are thinking, what their exact futures will be, and process this on an ongoing basis all the time? that's more like an incredible, incomprehensible being, more computer-like than any computer is capable of being.

I have always loved the image of god as a mother. My own mother led me onto the path of paganism when I was very young by introducing me to feminist spirituality.

I do not believe in god at all, neither as a mother nor a father, now, but I still love the pagan imagery of the Horned God and Mother Goddess (my cats are named Demeter and Artemis).

Males were looked at as societal leaders back in those times, and God was very naturally labeled, "Father" -- more like "Daddy" as it's translated. I don't think it's a bad idea to stick with that moniker, but if people want to play word games, we could call God a "divine parental unit" too.
