Ray Robinson in my opinion was the best Welterweight ever, and the best pound for pound fighter ever. At Middleweight he was past his prime. Do you see Carlos Monzon or Marvin Hagler losing to Randy Turpin, Carmen Basilio, Gene Fullmer, or Paul Pender? I don't. I don't even see Bernard Hopkins losing to those fighters. I have created controversy in this forum before with this statement but the top 3 middles ever in my opinion are:
1) Marvin Hagler
2) Ray Robinson
3) Carlos Monzon
I believe deep down in my heart that Monzon or Hagler would have clipped the great Sugar Ray at least once.

That goes to Harry Greb the Pittsburgh windmill.
He was World Middleweight boxing Champion from 1923 to 1926 and American Light Heavyweight title holder 1922 - 1923. He fought a recorded 299 times in his 13 year-career, against the best opposition the talent-rich 1920's could provide him, frequently squaring off against light-heavyweights and even heavyweights. He is believed by many ring historians to be one of the greatest pound-for-pound fighters in history - if not the greatest.
Total fights 299
Wins 261
Wins by KO 48
Losses 21
Draws 15
What make him unique is that he fought with one eye and still had all those victories. it wasn't until his death that they discovered this.

Bernard Hopkins was the best middleweight ever. He held the middleweight championship title for almost 12 years with his losses coming from Roy Jones Jr. in his prime and two extremely controversial losses to Jermain Taylor. He had great defense and everyone underrated his power. He was the best and to be honest, I think he shouldn't have retired at all. At 40, he could still be knocking people out and making people be interested in boxing.

In my opinion, the best middleweight ever, is also the Greatest fighter of all time, Sugar Ray Robinson, his record, his character and the way he carried himself inside and outside of the ring are/were a true credit to the sport. Sugar Ray fought the very best of the best and spawned legions of fighters who have tried to emulate his style and perfection. Ray never, ever ducked anyone and was always up for a challenge to prove he was the best.

Sugar Ray Robinson. "Many boxing fans and critics regard Robinson as, "pound for pound", the best boxer of all time. Muhammad Ali, who repeatedly called himself "The Greatest" throughout his career, has said without hesitation that, while he does consider himself the greatest heavyweight in boxing history, that he would rank Robinson the greatest fighter of all time. Other all time greats like Joe Louis and Sugar Ray Leonard have said the same."
