Leviticus 11:8

"And don't eat pork, since pigs have divided hoofs, but they do not chew their cud. Don't even touch a dead pig!"

it seems like there are too many loop holes in the Bible, how do christians justify the fact that they eat pork? do they just say that that part of the bible doesnt apply to todays standards or what?

Hi deano8072. You can not pick and choose the parts of the Bible that you like. Many churches do this today and this is very sinful. However, the Bible lines up perfectly if we read the entire Bible and compare scripture with scripture.

In the New Testament the Pharisees were the great keepers of the Law. God tells us they were also hypocrites. Hand washing was one of their laws that was suppose to get you into Heaven. The problem is these are outward signs they did to impress others. These things were not the will God, and Christ condemmed them for it. In Mark 7:7-8 Jesus teaches us:

"And in vain they worship Me, Teaching as doctrines the commandments of men.’ 8 For laying aside the commandment of God, you hold the tradition of men, the washing of pitchers and cups, and many other such things you do.”

Later in Mark 7:15 Jesus tells us what defiles a man:

"Do you not perceive that whatever enters a man from outside cannot defile him, 19 because it does not enter his heart but his stomach, and is eliminated, thus purifying all foods?” 20 And He said, “What comes out of a man, that defiles a man. 21 For from within, out of the heart of men, proceed evil thoughts, adulteries, fornications, murders, 22 thefts, covetousness, wickedness, deceit, lewdness, an evil eye, blasphemy, pride, foolishness. 23 All these evil things come from within and defile a man.”

Not eating pork, shell fish, or any good works can save you. Only the blood of the Lamb will bring you Salvation. John 1:29 God tells us very clearly who Jesus was:

"The next day John saw Jesus coming toward him, and said, “Behold! The Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world!"

Improperly cooked pork was and still is a good way of contracting trichinosis.. a good reason not to eat it.. Prepared properly, is not a problem.

Seems as though many do not follow up on their research of the Bible, just to establish a point. If you would read further, I am sure you would find these words.... (paraphrased) "Be not overly concerned about what you eat".. but apparently there are many more such words which apply to other facets of our humanity.. like.. "Do not over eat, over drink or become anxious... each day has its own anxieties." In other words, there must be something more important to keep your mind occupied with!!

I'm a Christian and I don't eat pork.

Shellfish either (no fins & scales)

Don't eat rabbit or Ostrich either.

I have this silly belief that God's a little smarter than me, and he said don't eat it.

I think he might know something I don't know.

God told Noah in Gen 9:3 "Every moving thing that liveth shall be meat for you; even as the green herb have I given you all things."

It was to the Jews in the land of promise that Leviticus 11:8 was written, not to everybody.

The Japanese have the longest lifespans in the world, and they eat pork, shellfish and a whole lot of other unkosher stuff.

What's done in the flesh isn't going to matter a hill of beans on judgment day. Clean hands and a pure heart doesn't come from abstaining from pork.

Actually, Christians don't eat pork, according to the commandment of God -- Catholics and Protestants do though. And you are right; in order to justify that, they pick and choose which parts of the Bible they obey. They claim that some of God's laws (the ones they don't like) were "done away." And they do that by misinterpreting Scripture.

Not all Christians do eat it.

Some people justify their eating of pork and other forbidden items by Mark 7. That should be read in context. Jesus was talking about ceremonial/spiritual uncleanness. The Pharisees thought that the ritual washing of hands made them clean, but were willing to ignore what God said to justify traditions that were opposite his commands. Jesus was telling them that they had it backwards. Ritually unclean hands couldn't cause spiritual harm to a person, but what was in his heart could.

Jesus was talking to people who would never even have considered the Levitical lists as food. When the Mark verse says Jesus pronounced all foods clean, it didn't have anything to do with pork, and no one there misunderstood him.

As to the other passage commonly misused, Peter in Acts understood that his vision didn't have to do with food, because he said himself, God has shown me that no MAN should be called common or unclean. He didn't say pork was no longer unclean, nor did he teach or believe it.

They mis examine, take out of context, do not examine the full situation properly , fail to bear in mind what grew to become into occurring at that element era in question and using observe and words. The Pharisees and Sadducee's have been complaining of the gospel/torah being shared with the unclean gentiles. That they(gentiles) mandatory to maintain each and all of the pageant's, the regulations of moses, the circumcision. Paul reported that they gentiles) should not be judged for the hot moons, sabbaths, and so on. Has not something in besides to do with retaining The seventh Day Sabbath and the ingesting of in basic terms the clean and fending off the unclean. That it in basic terms applies to the Hebrews, Israel, is area of the previous regulation, christians are decrease than a clean covenant, the imaginative and prescient Paul observed of the animals dropped down in the sheet grew to become into pertaining to the sharing of the gospel with the gentiles. This Bible passage explains that fact farther on in the analyzing, even though that's skipped over. All of this fake impact and misapplied recommendations adjustments not something of the Jew or Gentile....unclean animals the place created unclean and are nonetheless unclean, not something replaced that fact!! everybody is making an attempt to make excuses for not following an trouble-free effortless experience healthful foodstuff recurring it is amazingly clean in the Bible.

Because its good. I make the best pork and cabbage. Place the cabbage in a dutch oven with onions and potatoes. Put the pork on top. Cook on 350 for two hours. Oh, If Jesus was here He would eat it because God said in the New Testament that it was O.K. to eat pork.

And by the way, try reading the Bible. You will be able to answer your own questions.

Jesus said "Its not that which goes into a man that defiles him but that which goes out of him for out of the abundance of the heart goeth blasphemies, adulterous thoughts etc.," Don't confuse the law of the Old Testament with the New Testament as under the law which was only ever given to the Children of Israel, they were not allowed to eat Pork. We are Gentiles and note the incident involving Peter when the Lord lowered all manner of animals and told him to kill and eat but Peter answered and said that he would never allow any thing unclean to enter into his mouth. The Lord answered him by saying that he was not to call anything unclean that the Lord has cleansed. We are under Grace today and under grace there is no law.

"Think not that I have come to abolish the law and the prophets; I have come not to abolish them but to fulfill them. For truly, I say to you, till heaven and earth shall pass away, not an iota, not a dot, will pass from the law until all is accomplished. Whoever then relaxes one of the least of these commandments and teaches men so, shall be called least in the kingdom of heaven; but he who does them and teaches them shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven. For I tell you, unless your righteousness exceeds that of the scribes and Pharisees, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven."
[Mt. 5:17-20]

Contrast this with Paul's letter to the Romans:
"I know and am persuaded in the Lord Jesus that nothing is unclean in itself; but it is unclean for any one who thinks it unclean."
[Rom 14:14]
And again, in the same letter:
"So do not let what is good to you be spoken of as evil. For the kingdom of God does not mean food and drink but righteousness and peace and joy in the Holy Spirit."
[Rom 14:16]

In Paul's own testimony, as found in his letter to the new Roman Christians, he is relaxing not just the least of these commandments, but basically all of these commandments. And he justifies everything with his rationalization that:-
~if you don't think it's bad, then it's not.~

By these types of statements, Pauline Christianity pretty much destroys the entire Old Testament Commandments.

And thus explains why Christians eat pork. Nevertheless there are many individuals who have abstained from it. Rev Ted Haggard, ex-President of the National Evangelist Association said in one of his many interviews that he and his family do not eat pig meat.

A good thing that is happening in the world is that we now see each other with more similarities, not differences.
