I think it is because they like you or the person they lick. a lick is better then a bit, i think. my dog's always lick. i think it also means they are happy.

The answer is a question, Why do humans shake hands? We are greeting someone, our dogs lick hands lol. That is why tho, they are saying hi.

ive been told its their way of showing affection!!!.... but i think its funny that people will let them lick them in their face knowing they lick their "private areas"(for lack of better words that wont get my booted lol) and they dont mind but they think its gross when they drink out of the toilet then try to lick them its the same thing lolthey are still licking something gross before licking you!

It is the equalavent of kissing, and when they get excited, they lick us. It is also a maternal thing, when a pup is born moms lick them, and also to keep the pups clean, they lick them. They also lick to keep us "clean"

i think it's cause they're happy. But sometimes my dogs try to lick me after i've eaten too
