They are the same. The yellow color is a recessive trait. A litter with two black parents can have black, chocolate, and yellow pups.
Most labs are not "calm". They are very energetic dogs. They need good owners who can train them to behave and be patient when they still don't respond to their names.
Read "Marley and Me" it is a great book about a writer who owned a lab. It's a beautiful story.
Don't make a dog decision until you do more research.
I have been a lab only owner since 1990. I love the breed.
Unfortunately many people do not have the time to devote to their training. There are many labs dumped in animal shelters when the owners get too frustrated. Check there first.

Color makes no difference. Blood lines make all the difference in the world.
General rule of thumb a field bred puppy will not be as calm as a show bred puppy. Over the last 50 some odd years I have had all threes colors many times over, and every dog is a different personality.

It depends on age I have a black lab who is not calm. And a yellow lab a year younger that is calm.

Well i have a chocolate lab and shes kinda crazy.......and she licks 2 much...but i would say that all labs are about the same.

i've heard that black labs are the most calm, while chocolate labs are the most hyper...but this is all speculation and i have definitely met some wild black labs in my lifetime!

the one that his most calm i would probally say the yellow lab cause we have one and it is the calmest one out of the labs.

I've seen calm and crazy come in all colors.
Just like people.

I don't think it has anything to do with color. Every dog is different just like people.
