when my uncle was over there up until 3 months ago, i use to send him all kinds of goodies. chocolate, peanuts, jerky, just about anything that doesn't go bad. i'd also send him hygiene stuff, soap, lotion, anti-bacterial stuff, also i know it sounds weird, but lots of q-tips. they use it not only for their ears, but cleaning their weapons. but most of all, letters from home and plenty of pics, and it wouldn't hurt to send disposable cameras either. once you gather everything, go to your local post-office, and let them know you are mailing it to a loved one in iraq, and they will supply a reasonable size box and help you ship it off. make sure his addy is written correctly. it took my uncle about 7 days to get his. good luck, and God Bless our Troops.....

As a us soldier having been to Iraq, I can tell you the things we want are usually every day things. Sun screen, bug repellent, magazines, cards, toiletries, and other things to keep our down time occupied. We cant have alcohol though. To be honest though, we have px's (wall mart like stores) over there now. We can get most of what we need from there. The best thing to do is just to send us letters letting us know we are in your thoughts and prayers, often.

here is a list I was sent to send my husband overseas:
Baby wipes, deodorant, tooth paste and brush, sunscreen, bug spray, lip stuff, eye drops, and other items in this range. As for food nothing that melts or ruins. Canned foods are good, cookies, and the stuff you add to water to change the flavor, other items in this range.
Magazines, books, cards and other games. and letters and pictures from home.

im guessing the question is really... "Why do we send US soldiers to Iraq?" and we do it because well.... im not sure anymore... probably protecting their government.... kinda seems like were human targets...

I hear that a lot of them are asking for mundane stuff like bug repellent, playing cards, phone cards and stuff like that. Why not check with your local USO or church support groups.

Most soldiers need the basics: NON-aerosols ONLY!! M/F= 2in1 shampoos, ethnic hair pomades, body wash gels + bath scrubbers/poufs, best quality 2-3 blade razors (disposables are fine!) and shave gel, bar soaps + caddies, hand/body lotions and non-flammable hand sanitizers, nail clippers + emory boards, antifungal foot powder, cornstarch-based body powder, body/baby wipes are extrememly important (esp in travel size), toothbrushes + holders, toothpaste, floss/-picks + mouthwash, solid deodorants. Holiday, nice birthday (both genders-ALL ages) AND anniversary cards are needed:) Enclose a photo (optional) of yourself/family and a note to boost morale AND include legible return address +/or e-mail addy:) Check Dept of Defense.gov for DOD links to military support websites (like anysoldier.---) to get a contact name to pkgs to IF you don't already have a contact/addy.
