Corn starch is a quick fix to bleeding claws (just dip the claw tip in the corn starch). If you commonly clip the claws and do not like to use corn starch, a product that you can get at WalMart called Quik-Stop (generically, styptic powder) can also be used as a dip to stop bleeding

Corn Starch....................mix it with just a little water to make a 'paste'...and 'gob' it on the birds nail. No 'baby powder'... you dont want the bird to eat any of that, it's not good for it. Once the bleeding has stopped, clean off the corn starch w/ a little warm water, and make sure no bleeding 'starts up' again. Get yourself to a pet store, as soon as you can, and pick up a thing called "kwik stop".... it's made just for this reason. Oh...call a vet, if you cannot stop the bleeding, asap !!!!!!!!!!

You can use baking flour to help stop the bleeding. Pack a little bit of the baking flour onto the bleeding nail and apply a little bit of pressure at the tip of the nail that is bleeding to help cut off the blood supply (cautorize).
Good luck.

you need to have styptic powder, for future reference. It is bleeding because you cut the quick (which hurts quite a bit). Just don't cut it so short next time.
Also, you can get the styptic powder in the form of a stick (it looks like a piece of chalk). Just buy it at your local petstore (it costs a couple of dollars).
If you don't have the powder now, I would hold a cotton ball to it and hope it stops. Try to get a friend or family member to run out to the store for you to buy the powder!

Special clotting products at pet stores, many are open until 9pm; until you can get that, try a little unbleached white flour (cooking flour) on the nail. Clean it out later. Call a vet that treats birds ASAP.

Pet supply stores carry a powder that will stop the bleeding, but cornstarch will work just as well.
