For something that supposedly harms my hair it sure makes it look good. I've been blow drying my hair for probably around 15 years now.....will it eventually end up damaging my hair or is my hair just indifferent to it? My hair is long and thick so if I do let it dry naturally it takes hours. So far though I see no damage done to my hair because I blow dry it....does it only happen to some hair types or has my time just not come yet?
lol, thanks for the answers!

A blow dryer is the only heat styling tool I use....it is very rare for me to use a flat iron or curling iron. And I condition everyday, but that is mainly because I couldn't brush my hair if I didn't!
Thanks for all the answers!

its on how often you blow dry, what kind of hair, and how you do it! your hair will be fine as long as you keep the dryer at a safe distance ide say about 4-6 inches or so

High heat is bad- so if you use the coolest setting it's far less damaging than higher heat. If you can air dry more it will be better for your hair, maybe on the weekends when you have more time... You may not notice the damage, but you may be getting a little more breakage, or split ends because of the hairdryer- just like when you straighten hair, it looks great and shiny after, but it damages hair... Good luck

You shouldn't blow dry it everyday but, if you do blow dry it you should apply leave in conditioner on the ends and roots it won't be so harmful if you have frizzy hair i would recommend you blow dry it once a week and if it's straight you can blow dry it twice to three times. If your hair hasn't shown any signs of breaking your good, if you do see an occasional breakage I sujest you follow above. If you still feel the need to blow dry it everyday use conditioner just to be safe. Some times breakages doesn't show until later in the years.

If you get your hair trimmed regularly and take good care of it otherwise the damage should be minimal to the point where it wouldnt be noticeable. Although hair type does play a factor as well. I have long thick hair, I understand the taking hours to air dry, but I color my hair, and have lots of layers, so when I do blow dry it, it makes the ends look split, even though upon close inspection they arent.

Blow drying is not necessarily the cause of damage to hair, it is usually just the heat. You are right, some people are just more likely to get damage form the heat than others. No worries if there is no damage yet.

Yes. Over drying the hair causes strands to dry out and break. Your best bet is to blow dry your hair 80 percent dry, and let the rest dry naturally. When you can, you should skip the blow dryer altogether. Also you should condition your hair regularly.

It can dry out your hair; esp the ends. Try not to blow dry it too close to the hair shaft or on the "hot" setting.
Your hair can be great though if you condition well and trim the ends. :)

No. That's a myth. However using a hairdryer will dry out your hair and give that effect of damage or brittling. There are remedies to resupply nutrients back into your hair.
And no, hats don't make men go bald.

as long as you don't over do it, and you have a good conditioner or hair moisturizer to keep your hair from getting dry you should be fine...
and remember any heat you apply to the hair
EX: flat irons, curling irons, hot curlers etc... use a good conditioner so it doesn't dry your hair out and break it off... good luck and keep on blowin'

I have always believed any type of intense heat on any parts of our bodies can be damaging. That would include hair. We need to take care of what we have, as we want it to last as long as possible!! That often means going the extra mile to brush, floss, trim, moisturize, exercise and eat right. I want to be buried with my OWN teeth and hair.
