Hi, I've been really depressed lately. Is there any way I can shake it off without pills or stuff like that?

I suffered from it for along time but did not have a clue what to do about it. I finally came across some really wonderful, inspirational books. I learned from them what was happening to me, found out it is a common, many people have episodes of it. One of the principal reasons was low self esteem and being hyper- sensitive to other peoples opinions. The first book that got me on the recovery path was a simple book (now it's very old) by Edward C Barker - "Nerves and Their Cure". What I liked about it was he gave wonderful reconditioning exercises like" When you feel depressed, etc, etc, that is the key(or trigger) to instead feel, loved,secure........." and all the opposite positive qualities and repeat over and over. This really worked wonders for me. Another was an absolutely wonderful inspiring book which has helped countless people and has been reprinted many times. "The Game of Life and How to Play It" by Florence Scovel Shinn. It's also an older book but still available.(If not try Ebay.) As she says "People consider life a battle, but it is not, it's a wonderful game. Whatever any person sends out in word or deed, it will return to him; what he gives he will receive; If he gives love he will receive love,....the same with giving hate, criticism, and lying to others. Whatever man feels deeply or clearly images impresses the subconscious and will undoubtedly manifest outwardly. So employ the imagining facility to image only good and you will bring into your life only good - good health, love, true friends, perfect self expression". Has many useful affirmations. This was my cure and far better than 'any pills or stuff like that.' I wish you well.

I have been depressed also. Last week I went to the Dr. I had some blood work done and it showed that I have an under active thyroid. This is more common in women then men. It makes a person feel tired, nervous, and depressed. You can go to some web sites just look under thyroids and you can get other signs and symptoms. If this is not your cause try exercise and take B vitamins.

I believe you can fix depression. I find helping others makes me happy. Reaching out and doing favors for people who are less fortunate than I. No big deal. Little things. I think that depression happens when we let the world get too small around us. We forget there is much to do. So many people need us. We can really make a difference if we just look around and help out.

Don't eat sugar and stay away from bread, starchy foods. They will increase your physical tendency to be depressed. Exercise is a good physical deterrent as well.

I've been depressed myself, Revently I found a buddy at work to go jogging with. The days I miss my jog now I feel all ycuky, but the days I go jogging I feel great and almost overly perky. Try some excercise and stay away from junk food (dark chocolate is ok though, they say it's good for you). Get a pal in your area who you may see doing things (or at work) and try to get a schdule to do some workouts! I'm sure you'll love it and your friend/excercise buddy will enjoy it too!

that depends. How long have you had this? Is it caused by a specific trauma or changes in life? I would see a doc to rule out anemia, thyroid problems, etc. You may then be referred to a therapist who may or may not recommend medication. Even if they recommended this, it is not something you need to stay on forever. I needed them at one point in life, and they made a world of difference.
