Ok, I have 2 new pound puppies. boy 9 weeks and girl 5 months. Both were born in the shelter. I need to know how often and how much to feed each. Is it alright to feed them together? I don't think I fed them enough today because they were acting really hungry when I did feed them. So, I need a schedule...what should it be? Now, I know this wasn't bright but when we visited the shelter my husband didn't come. the 5 mos. old pup loves me and the girls. But, she is somewhat skiddish when my husband goes to pet her. Not aggressive just timid. She cringes and sometimes run. From what I can see all of the employees at the shelter are female. Could this be why? Any suggestions on how to calm her besides just letting him pet her? or is this a bad sign?

the 9 week old is a baby and should be fed 3 times a day , smaller portions. Dry food expands in the tummy. She has a smaller stomach and will hold less that is why 3 times a day; they can be fed together but separate so you can make sure someone is not getting more than their share. 5 month old twice daily ; Always have fresh water. It could be that she was mistreated by a male; be patient and give her time, she will come around. Also, a man's voice is deeper. It will pass , don't push her , give them time to adjust to new home and family ; time, patience and consistent training overcomes the obstacles.

You don't say what kind of dogs they are but the small one should have about 11/2 cups of dried food (or equivalent depending on what they are eating), twice a day ,the older one should have 2 -3 cups twice a day, give them a few pieces of plain boiled pasta if they seem hungry but remember, puppies will eat until they burst if you let them so they may not be truly hungry, a puppy will normally whine persistently if it is. I would feed them together under supervision, it will help them to socialise and also learn that they eat out of their own bowl only. I'm sure the older puppy will get used to your husband, he could try kneeling on the floor so that his size is less intimidating and then calling her, if she is allowed to come to him rather than him going to her, it makes him seem less threatening. I'm sure you're right, that she's used to being around females, she will get used to him in no time if he continues to be patient with her.

As far as the puppy being skittish with your husband, just give it some time. My humane society adopted puppy was very afraid of my husband and sons at first(we think she may have been abused by a male or something). She was very attached to me
from day one(she would run between my legs when the males tried to pet her) and it just took some time and reassurance before she was comfortable with my husband and the boys. She now loves all the guys(still mommas girl though).

Have your husband pet her at the same time you do, and tell her its all right and calm and soothe her. So she understands that you think its ok for him to pet her. She needs reassurance. You can feed puppies twice a day, if you feed them too much, they'll more than likely throw up to empty their stomachs. Watch them the way you are now, and you'll know how much. The little one should have 2-4 cups twice a day, too much and his tummy will get upset if he gets too warm.

how cute!!!
well when my mom was little she had a farm! so she said that maybe the best is 2 times a day. she also said that if you feed them to much you could give them Diarhea. but you also don't want to feed them to little. the best thing you could do is maybe call up the shelter and ask them.
* here is a tip, as puppies they dont know when to stop eating. so they are going to come to you and want more :)

Get husband to feed them following recommendations on side of can or feeding advice from other websites.
That should help with both.
Should be OK to feed both together unless they fight then separate them.

Just give them time..tell your hubby to spend some time with her. You can and should feed them together but in seperate bowl...The dog food bags/cans tell you how much to feed. Right now still puppy food for both!
