Why so much anger? I would assume if you did not believe, you would not care. So why all the hostility? Looking for serious answers, though I suppose they might be, well, ...angry! Thanks everyone.

The same could be asked of Christians.

Well, I can't speak for everyone, but anytime I get upset over religion, it's the insults. I think it's safe to say that most atheists don't care at all about religion. I personally don't care what a person's religion is. I come here to answer the questions that I can and to ask questions I might have. If I see a question being asked that ticks me off(and there's been plenty), I don't bother with it.

I imagine that others get sick of being called things like Communist, being told they're going to Hell, being treated like sub-humans who don't have the right to religious freedom, things like that. Frankly, I do, too. I try not to respond with anger in the questions I do answer(even if I disagree or think a person's wrong for their thoughts on atheists), but I am only human, so it may slip out.

Deliberately angry responses are either those deliberately looking for a fight(which happens amongst atheists and believers alike) or those who are sick of being run down for their lack of beliefs. I tend to fall into the latter, but I do my best to remain polite and control my anger as I respond.

After all, even mean people have a right to their opinion.

No one likes being bashed. Just look around at how many questions are specifically created to jab at "unbelievers".

We're constantly told that we're without ethics. Because apparently the only reason anyone is a good person is because they're afraid of hell. We're told that we're unhappy, angry people. That we're going to hell to burn for all eternity not for anything we've done wrong, but because we choose to think. And then we're repeatedly called upon to prove beyond doubt that what we believe is true. No one else is treated thus.

Now granted, there are those that jump into threads where they shouldn't be and stir up trouble. But when a question is directly aimed at atheists, and then a whole bunch of christians answer it rudely bashing atheists and proclaiming how their mighty god will smote them, it tends to cause bad feeling.

There's a definate lack of respect on both sides. But I want to commend you on asking a question, and not being insulting in the process. What will be telling, however, is how many answers you'll get from the religious fundementals that insult or dismiss atheists. I think you'll have your answer to why atheists here seem to be angry right there from reading the lack of respect.

The anger, I would imagine, is due to the fact that Christians have a propensity for sharing their faith uninvited and foisting their opinions on all and sundry. To atheists, this is like a fantasy role playing game running loose in the streets. They don't want to participate or have to cope with the consequences to the actions of believers that make their lives harder.

If Christians rejoiced and shared their faith among like-minded believers, the rage would dissapear. But that's not likely.

I completely agree; even though , i'm sorry to declare you would be surrounded by ability of religious people for the the remainder of your existence. The human innovations has a brilliant spectrum of intelligence and that may not going to alter any time quickly. Even the Russian communists would desire to not close the Russian Church and China on the instant has over 50,000,000 new Christians that's scaring the chinese language government. those wackos worship in secret church homes and the chinese language rightly evaluate them to be a political risk besides.super Britain as quickly as over 50% Atheist in accordance to numerous opinion polls has those days allowed a three million Islamic "community" into the country finished with "honour" killings. inspect the BHA decrease than

I'm not an athiest, I believe in God, but I dont believe in organized religion, churchs etc. I get upset when someone assumes that because I dont go to church I must be a heathen of some sort. I dont go around preaching to people about my beliefs... I get upset when a well meaning Christian trys to "save me". I live a good life, I try to be a good person and treat people the way in which I wish to be treated. I dont point my finger at people who do not believe the way I do, or act the way I do, or dress the way I do.. etc. I am not angry.. I am fed up.

Christians.. please MIND YOUR OWN BUSINESS! I dont see Jews, Buddhist, Hindus or Wiccans knocking on my door, handing out leaflets at the zoo trying to save my soul, etc.

My grandmother is the most Christian woman I know, never says a foul or bad word about anyone, if anyone has a direct line to God its her. She took me to sunday school and churchwhen I was a child. She helped pay for my Christian Education and gives me guidance when I ask for it... sometimes even when I dont. but she is not pushy and overbearing.

I dont need a stranger telling me I am going to burn in hell when they dont even know me.

We care about truth. I don't see any more angry atheists than I do angry theists. Although when deluged with inane generalizations, I suppose the responses would tend to have a harsh bent to them.

the same can be said for theists..... that is a rash generalization that you theists make because of the fact that we don't agree with you on something that neither of us can prove the existence for.

And we actually care more about you people that believe in a diety, because we know that our future societies on this Earth will rely on knowledge of the Earth and not "Faithing" "Hoping" and "Praying" that the Earth will be saved. We have to face problems in the world Face - to - Face, not Face - To - Thought.

I know that many don't want to hear this but please consider this: many people see religion compromising human rights (women's rights, reproductive choice, gay rights), science and education (evolution), medicine (stem cell research), and democracy (by pursuing theocratic agendas). If we saw more love and less rigidity and dogma, the anger towards religion wouldn't be here. Not many (if any) atheists have anger towards zen buddhists. And the reason is obvious.

I'm as happy as a boy in a clean new pair of shorts. Who's angry? Of course it irritates me when people misrepresent things I believe to be important and then offer that as a means of criticizing me, but wouldn't you be angry if I said "Jesus? A bloke who hung out with twelve guys and made it to his mid thirties without a girlfriend, and not gay?". I hope you would.

I'm not angry. I actually enjoy coming in here and seeing how fiercely proud people are of their religious beliefs. I often envy people's faith... Oh damn. Another sin. I'll bet there is a Special Place in Hell for me.
