My sister who is 37 has started to suffer from hairloss. She is special needs and is very upset about this. She does not have any bald patches as such but it looks like on one side of her head the hair has been chopped off. (Her hair is to her shoulders)It started a couple of months after she had her hair highlighted for the first time. Can this cause it? She is on the pill, has anyone had this happen to them?

As I already stated my sister is special needs so her having a husband is very unlikely and find that answer very upsetting. Why are people so insensitive.

a common cause of hairloss can be due to stress /shock from an event in a persons life ,could be a drastic change in routine espescially for someone with special needs depending on the type of special needs .hairloss can also be hereditory or due to a condition called alopecia which is incuruble but hair can grow back in some cases. but also causes eyebrows and lashes to fall out too. some prescription creams for scalps do help some people, this could just be an allergic reaction to the bleach used for highlghting hair and rectify itself in time

Stress can do it quickly. Pregnancy too. I had it happen to me when I was about the same age. One spot a bit larger than a quarter, I was in a bad marriage and in terrible stress. A year later it all came back. I also used olive oil on it every night then put on a shower cap to sleep with and keep the scalp warm. That is an old European remedy.

Hair loss affects both men and women. Here are some natural remedies that can help boost hair growth: https://tinyurl.im/aH7Q3 While genetics plays a role, there are other factors, including: hormonal imbalances, an underactive thyroid gland, nutrient deficiencies and insufficient scalp circulation.

It could be stress? Or maybe the hormones in the pill is causing this adverse reaction. But it sounds like it could be from having her hair highlighted. Maybe contact the hairdresser for advice or she should go to the Dr as I can understand this must be very distressing for her.

Hormones can cause hair loss but that would create bald patches. If the hair is breaking off, is sounds like it may be the chemicals from the highlighting.

Malnutrition can cause hair loss, as well as a myriad of health problems. Has she seen a doctor about it?

It may be a thyroid problem? as women tend to lose their hair when suffering from this problem. Although they may feel well they can still have this problem. Best to check with the G.P.
