I totally agree. Use the same amount of applesauce as oil. I guess that you can't really taste the applesauce, but I would also add some baking cocoa to the recipe to mask the apple taste(in case you can taste it). Baking cocoa does not contain extra sugar or fat if that is a concern.

itpro's a freak. how are you gonna taste applesauce in a brownie?

Use about an equal amount - so 1/3 c. applesauce. If you want it a bit moister, it doesn't hurt to add a little more - but make it only a couple tablespoons more.
