What did you think. What age do you think is the correct age to stop breastfeeding. I felt it was disgraceful a woman was asked to stop breastfeeding in a park by a policeman. Would he rather see the poor baby starve?

i watched a programme on this a few months ago, i think the age to stop is no older than 2. i chose not to breastfeed for 2 reasons, 1 they were too painful to even touch never mind have a baby sucking them, and 2 (the main one really) in the UK people seem to have a big problem with mothers feeding their child in public, i don't know why as they do it very discretely so you cant see anything, why should a mother go into the toilets in a restaurant to do the most natural thing in the world, would you eat your dinner in a public loo?
the police telling the mother to stop feeding her child should be reported, if it was me, i would have him reported straight away, that's just not on!
They say breast is best, but we are not given the opportunity to do whats natural as society doesn't agree

I watched this show a few months back.I am a very pro breastfeeding mother. I found it difficult to understand why so many people take offence to bf in public when breasts are on display sexually every day. Breats were not designed for sex but to feed our babies. All this said however i do find it difficult to comprehend "extreme " Breastfeeding. Breastfeeding a toddler is one thing but a pre school age child is a bit strange. I think it is more about the mothers need to have her child need her then anything else, because if she wanted her child to have the benefits of breast milk, why not put it in a cup.

I saw the Breastfeeding programme when it first aired and i was amazed and shocked. Personnally i have no problem with a women breastfeeding her 8 year old daughter. What she does in her own home and behind closed doors is up to her. what annoys me is the fact that i walk down my high street and there is a woman breastfeeding her baby and her whole breast is on show. At least cover it up. I took my hubby to Manchester for his birthday last year and we were in a cafe having some lunch and a woman came and sat at the table next to us and openly got her boob and started feeding. My hubby was so embarrassed and i was embarrassed for him. (bear in mind my hubby has a definite feminine streak and is all for breastfeeding) I have absolutely no problem with women breast feeding cos it is the most natural thing in the world and i will perosnnaly do my best to breast feed my children but i will not be putting my breasts on show in public. I will use a shawl to cover my baby and my breast.
Just a thought, if a woman walked down a street with her boobs hanging out she would be done for indecent exposure, attach a baby and its suddenly accepted???!!! I dont think so

No, I just caught the last six minutes, from where they were doing the calendar.I think that the best age to stop is when the child is ready. I just stopped after 18 months and I think that was right for us.
That thing about the policeman is disgraceful...I would have carried on regardless, followed him around and waited until he took a drink, then told him not to do that in public, or to go to a public toilet to have his drink.....well, I probably wouldn't have, but it is a nice idea....!

I think kids should wean themselves when they are ready but if they're not showing signs of it by maybe 2 then the mom can use some gentle encouragement tactics. My 2 1/2 year old daughter just weaned herself. It was her decision and we're both fine with it. In general I think it should be the child's decision but it really seems weird to me older than about 3. It still may be the best thing for that child. I think each mother knows her child and knows what is best. It's just our culture that makes us think breastfeeding longer is weird.

i agree that a baby should be fed on demand, wherever, whenever, until the age of 2.i personally found it disturbing that a child of 8 yrs old is still asking for breast milk.my children are aged 11,7,5 and 9mths,i cant ever imagine breastfeeding my 5yr old daughter,i feel some parents dont want to let their babies grow up,if i was still breast feeding my children, and their friends found out,i know for a fact they'd be bullied, its abnormal.

he might of asked her to stop but he could of arrested her - i'm not saying this is right it is just a fact - in the uk women aren't suppossed to get out thier breasts out in puplic unless its in the papers on page 3 and jack straw doesn't want them to cover thier faces in his office, if the woman nurturing her child had a viel (or mask on) she would probably of been shot as a terrorist somehow i think i'd of agreed if she was wearing a mask - noone in the UK needs a viel against sand just against identificaction

Being in the US, I missed that one.

Is there a way to see if it will air on BBC America?
