I saw a recipe that uses this instead of flour, baking powder and some other things I believe. Is it sold under a brand name? I have never heard of such a thing.

It could be something like all purpose flour or something like Bisquick which is an all purpose baking mix. You can make everthing from biscuits, waffles, dumplings, pancakes, crepes, etc with it. I use it all the time.

Bisquik - Jiffy brand baking mix (much more reasonable than Bisquik) or any store brand labeled "all purpose baking mix"

You maybe able to get it at some stores that specialize in baking needs or bulk food stores.
Most of the people I know make thier own and keep it on hand.

It's Bisquick.

Yes, there is "Jiffy" & "Bisquick" and I am sure that your local grocery store has it's own store brand.
