I have been working on toilet training my five-year-old cat for some time now. She is pretty good at urinating in the toilet, but will stool anywhere but the bowl. My vet suggested I give up, but I feel I am so close. Any suggestions to get her to stool in the toilet bowl? I am using the plastic trainer that has hole one can enlarge over time.

HI there...some cats find that their balance on the edge of the seat is difficult while having a bowel movement as they arch their back while bearing down which causes them to wobble. This in a sense makes them feel a lack of control over their balance. Some people have found that if they place a small piece of thin plyboard half between the toilet seat on top of the bowl this will give the kitty a place to get a better foothold while having the bowel movement. Consider something like this and see if this helps with the training process.

Please keep in mind it's important to correct her quickly as she will develop a permanent habit of going on the floor indefinitely. Once the habit is establish it's difficult to change since she has learned the floor is safest and easiest as well.

Interesting problem... Not quite sure what step you are on or what program you are using, but it seems like the defecation part of the plan is a little more tricky for your friend. Perhaps back it up a step or two and go back to the litter box on the toliet. I'd give it another week or two and if you can catch your friend using the box, give them their favorite reward (treat, scratches, whatever) and make it a huge deal. Then you might be able to go onto the next step.

Best of luck :)

My Cat had kittens about 5 months ago. When the kittens were 3 months old and we gave them away (we kept one) she started going into constant heat. She is in heat about 25 days of the month. She never goes outside so she started peeing on all the inside plants. To make this short now she pees on everything and has now started peeing in the toliet. I have no idea why...
