Every good thing has a hurtful or difficult side. A rose is a beautiful thing, but if grasped the wrong way you get hurt on the thorns.

A rose here is meant to be an example of something beautiful.

The thorn is an example of something that can hurt you.

The suggestion is that every beautiful thing, each thing that gives you pleasure, has a side to it that can hurt you.

it means not everything is always going to be perfect or beautiful---there's going to be some negative.

You've got to take the bad (thorns) to get the good (the rose)

The most beautiful things have something dangerous about them. You have to take the whole thing, appreciate the beautiful part and beware of the dangerous part.

There is no pain to look, but action could cause you pain. You have to think before you take an action, are you willing to suffer the conquence of your actions whether postive or negative ??
