First of all, I'm very sorry for your loss. I've had to put 5 dogs to sleep in my lifetime, and I still miss each and every one of them. They were all special in their own special way.
I know that another dog cannot and never would replace the dog you lost, but what is your reason for not wanting to get another dog? There is nothing wrong with getting another dog to love and open your heart for. As I said, a new dog will never replace the one you lost, but it will take your mind off some of your pain. So many dog are looking for loving homes, and you can love another dog again. It won't be the same as your first dog, but you love him or her just as much, but in a different way.
I'm adding a link to a website that deals with grieving as well. Hopefully, you can find some comfort soon.
Best of luck to you.

It is so hard to lose a loved one. You have my condolences..I waited nearly 4 years before getting another dog. I even tried out a Jack Russell, Minature white sheppard, and a scruffy dog. I had to return them all because they just weren`t the one for me...A neighbor moved and I finally seen this little red dog..It would bark at me and my 2 cats in my driveway and I would shoo her off. Well the ppl that moved had left her I was told so I went over and picked her up and took her home with me. I fed her, petted her, played with her. Every morning she would get out and run across the street where she lived. It took about 1 week and she brought back a small blue ball and never went back again.. She is still with me and the joy of my life..She is 13 and has arthertisis like me....She`s a regular dashound Red in color. I enjoy her so much but I know it will hurt when she goes...so I can only tell you what I did and no dog is the same.....Good Luck to you!!

I'm sorry that happened...very sad when you have a pet that leaves you. I was heartbroken when my dog that I had growing up passed. I still have a picture of him hanging up to this day. I have two dogs now but I will always remember my first dog - still get teary eyed when I think about him. You won't be able to replace him - just remember him...I think that's the important thing. If you do eventually get another dog, you'll also grow to love that dog too - and you'll also remember that your new dog is his/her own dog too - not a replacement for your first dog. You need to wait until you're mentally ready to get one before though. Getting teary eyed thinking about my dog. Best of luck to you. Another thing that I do is have a picture up and blow it a kiss goodnight every night...sometimes makes u feel a little better - like you're saying good night to him. :)

I have gone thru that many a time. You can't replace him. You shouldn't want to. You don't won't to leave the memories behind you either. He will always hold that little spot in your heart that only he still, HE STILL, lives in there, because of the memories you have of him and you. You can't stay busy enough. What you really need to do is just move on with your life and bring your memories with you. Get a puppy and make some new memories. Don't withhold love from him, but give him that part of yourself that only he can fill. Have fun, teach him new tricks, enter him in dog shows, etc. Whatever you like to do. Go on long walks, they love that and it gets that energy out a little so he won't be such a handfull......LOL......Let go and go on.......God Bless You !!!!

I'm sorry to hear about your loss. Time does heal such pain but, it isn't an overnight process.
Get the Sims 2 and the Pets expansion pack for the game. Then you can make a dog that is like yours was and have your sims play with it. They even have "kibble of life" that the pets can eat to prevent aging. The sim pup can live forever!!!

You'll never forget. You'll still walk around where his food bowl used to be, still step back when you drop food on the ground, and still wake up and reach out to pet him. I'm sorry but I don't think it ever really gets better. For me the best thing to do is get another puppy, not to replace your boy but for someone new to share your love with. Some people can't do this but I think it's best in most cases.
We have a secret, you and I that no one else shall know,
for who but I can see you lie each night in fire glow?
And who but I can reach my hand before we go to bed
and feel the living warmth of you and touch your silken head?
And only I walk woodland paths and see ahead of me,
your small form racing with the wind so young again, and free.
And only I can see you swim in every brook I pass.
and when I call, no one but I can see the bending grass.

i know how you feel. i just lost my dog three months ago. i got him when i was nine, a month after my dad died. we've have been together for eight years. i miss him but i have moved on. a month after he dead my grandpa's dog had puppies, that she could not take care of. so now i am rising her one saving pup. i suggest finding something that you can take care of and talk too; a new pet, stuff animal, or a game like nintendogs may help you cope with the lose of you dog. i hope this helps good luck.

I had a pet. I called him Goldie. he was my baby. I whispered to him and held him whilst he slept and spent hours with him, either watching him sleep or playing. But he died. Now I miss him so much. I built a little shrine, though. you know, all his favourite pictures and box of favourite treats and food bowl on a shelf. It helps me. But really, i know it's hard, but maybe you SHOULD get another dog; once you warm up to it, it will be like a medicine - a soothing, taste-good medicine.

If you want to be more involved you can volunteer to foster a dog until it finds a permanent home. Check out www.petfinder.com to find your local shelter or pound and call them up
