The reason you see a change in your hair is because the black hair color holds protien in it, and it's adding protien to that hair that was stripped of its protien and nutrients. I'm not going to say that permanent color does not damage the hair, but dyeing your hair a darker color is less harmful. I did the same about a month and a half ago and there is a big difference. Suggestions would be to keep your hair conditioned well and keep your ends trimmed and it will grow even longer.

Lightening your hair is a dfifferent process and it is very hard on the hair shaft....dyeing it darker also uses chemicals and damages the shaft too. My natural hair color is auburn and like a fool dyed it black.....now of course to get the black out i have to strip it, which basically is bleaching it till its orange, then re-dyeing it close to my real color. Total destruction. I dont know how old you are or how long you have been dyeing it, but try not to do it for long....maybe just a good condition and shine products might be better. But we always want what we dont or cant have.....people used to stop me and ask me if my natural color was real..of course i hated it and wanted it to be blonde or black. Now i wish i had just left it alone.

It depends what you use, I only use natural Henna Powder, as it is natural it won't hurt the hair, it leaves your hair soft, silky and easy to manage, I have fine hair. However, if you are using the commercial applications then the answer is yes, all the chemicals used in the ingredient list will and does enter your bloodstream via the pores in your scalp, not to mention that it only leaves your hair 'feeling' as if it is healthier.

Dyeing your hair black wont damage it. Make sure to apply a good conditioner and avoid any major hair chemicals.

It depends how much you dye it. If you dye your hair a lot, then you can damage it. If not, you have nothing to worry about (for another couple of years).

it depends on your hair type and yes it maybe can break out because of what you keep doing to it. so it`s best if you keep your hair the same color and and don`t add anything to it but shampoo, greece.gel, condioner, and maybe a relaxer but not all relaxers and don`t add all those chemicals at once.
