I live in Georgia and ive had someone tell me that when your child is 8 years old they can stay at home by themselves for up to 4 hours.
Is this true?!? My daughter is almost 8 and i cant see leaving her at home by herself at this age.
What are the laws about this?

I do not know about the laws in georgia but here in ky big time against the law , what mother or father in their right mind would leave a child under the age 16 home alone for any amount of time , law or no law its just plain stupid ,[ sorry ] child protective services would jump all over you for that , and so they should ,

Don't know if any states have laws about when it's ok to leave a child home alone but common sense would tell me that 8 years old is way too young.

I also live in Georgia and I have never heard that it is OK to leave a child alone at 8 yrs of age. Check with someone first, maybe Family Services.

I live in NY and here your child has to be 12 to be home alone. There is no way an 8 year old child should be left at home alone. I don't think that person knew what they were talking about.

In CA the child has to be at least 12 years old to stay home alone

i don't know what the law is in America but in the UK it's not illegal to leave a child it only becomes illegal if the child is injured which to me is completely wrong i wouldn't leave my child alone until at least 10/11 but even then I'd be on the cell phone checking that they're OK sorry i wasn't much help

In Kentucky, you can get in trouble if you leave a child younger than 12 alone. Call you department for social services.

I have five kids ranging from one to thirteen. I agree 8 is too young I think you need to make the decision based on their maturity.
I have left my 12yr old girl alone for an hour before but I would nver leave my 13yr old boy as he is too immature. I also wouldn't leave them with younger siblings it is just too much to ask.
Do what you think yourself trust your instinct.....and check if they are willing often when it comes to it they are too afraid.
Just dont leave yourself stressed out either way.

I think you have to be 11 or 12 to be left alone and if there are younger kids also being left you have to be 14

I am fairly certain its 12 years old.. any parent who leaves an 8 year old home alone wether its legal or not is an idiot...
