I teach my kids about the real Saint Nicholas...but not Santa, the Easter bunny, toothfairy...etc. As far as Christmas is concerned - lying to them is not what's best, and besides I want them to be grateful to us for spending out hard earned money on them - not some imaginary santa.

There was a Saint Nicholas from Turkey in the 4th century. When the Dutch brought the legend to this country the way they said his name sounded very much Santa Claus. The name stuck. Around the history of Saint Nicholas the legend grew and the stories grew and grew.
If for me is not so much that you are telling a lie but you are telling a story of hope and reward. In many ways it is something that we all want at heart. Not some little fat guy bringing presents but hope for a better tomorrow and reward for doing the right thing. May by that is a bad idea to some, I don't know but for a child is it so bad to have both hope and reward? These are thing that in today's world that have fallen along the road side. We don't care for each other and in many cases our own family any more.
Does it hurt to allow a little child to have a dream and then have that dream come true on Christmas morning? Or is it better to tell them that this is a cold heartless world that everyone is just out to walk all over you?
If you give hope does that also teach that if you try to do good that there can be reward in doing so? What about the giving part? Is it not a good lesson to teach that giving to others is much better than receiving?
I guess it is better to teach kids that this is a heartless world and that the older you get the worse life will treat you, so you better knock the other fellow out of your way so you can get what you want.
Sorry but that is not what I have and will teach my kids. If that is teaching a lie then I will stand in judgment for it. I don't think teaching my kids that did them that much damage. My oldest serviced in Iraq and did so for the rest of us. He learned that giving to others is one of the highest calling a young man can give. All that because I lied to him about Santa.
I'll take Santa over the selfishness of the world. I take hope for a better tomorrow at the risk of telling a lie when it comes to Santa.
If it is a crime then I will stand accountable.

I don't consider it a sin. I think parents think of
Santa has the Spirit of Giving at Christmas. It makes
little children happy. It is more blessed to give than
receive. It is just a fun tradition that has been handed
down through the years. It doesn't hurt anyone and
there is nothing evil in it. Let the kids enjoy this their
first four of five years of life.

Your question is a good one and i wish I understood why Christians Incorporated Santa into their church activities even with Christmas Tree decorations and some churches give out presents even to the poor communities. As some people think that's it just is ok to do as the world does and not and the word is.

What do you mean "there's no Santa?" As long as we put the true meaning of CHRISTmas ahead of all the commercial hype, God will be fine with it.
P.S. There's an Easter Bunny, right?

Thank God and His son Santa!
(Isn't it cool how if you move just one little letter, that Santa becomes Satan?)
Just thought I would throw that out there

Satan is the father of liars ...so a liar's father is satan , irrespective of his lip service : him being a christian...on the other hand is God and his children , those who do not lie ...Numbers 23 : 19 GOD IS NOT A MAN THAT HE SHOULD LIE: NEITHER THE SON OF MAN THAT HE SHOULD REPENT : HATH HE SAID , AND SHALL HE NOT DO IT ? OR HATH HE SPOKEN AND SHALL HE NOT MAKE IT GOOD ? ...God bless

we don't do Santa at our house. I told the kids we give gifts because the Wise men brought gifts to Baby Jesus because they loved Him and we love them so that's why we give them gifts. They are happy with it and I'm glad more people are choosing to do the same.

little white lies are not sins.
to be honest, i don't know why christians tell their children about Santa Claus. Maybe it's so they don't have to hear all their whining about what toys they want for christmas.
