...but because of the excesses it inspires in extremists of all faiths.”
(Ruth Gledhill, The Times)

Do you think Ruth's statement is true?

Actually that sounds very reasonable

No, I disagree with her. I honestly feel that this trend toward spirituality has been inspired by a downturn in humanity (wars, etc) and we have cause to reexamine all our values in life. There in the meantime are always going to be extremists. In all areas, not just religion. I believe that our "consumerist" society has begun to reinvent itself spiritually. Looked at what we have been up against recently...

First, I don't think that your quesiton provides enough context of Ruth's statement to comment on the actual meaning of her comment.

That said, I think that her comment buckles on itself. If religion inspires an excess that places religion "on the agenda", then it would have never "left" the agenda in the first place.

That said, Christianity remains "on the agenda", regardless of comments from Ruth, me, you or anyone on this earth.

The truth is that more and more people, grown-ups are coming to christ. Not just by being in church, but by the Gospel music being sung.

Gospel Rap, Gospel Rock, etc. They are learning
to see God in a loving and different way.

It says in the bible that in the end times, all will
be thirsting for the living water--God's word.

I think it makes sense to someone who has only their brain and not their spirit alive and working.

People out of touch with spirit try to wrap their brain around spiritual matters, and it just is not a intellectual issue. But kudos for them trying to make sense of it. Its not a sociological issue, its a biblical prophecy being fulfilled, I feel.

Thanks for letting me express my opinion......
