I have a masturbation/porn addiction and have been trying desperately to be free from it. I have tried filters, therapy and recently installed Internet accountability program to be accountable of my web activity.
Before I had mb/porn addiction, I was suffering from severe depression. Being naive about depression, I thought I was supposed to overcome it with pure willpower. It only made things worse.
I desperately needed to find an escape route from enormous pains caused by severe depression. I didn't want to turn to drugs, alcohol, tobacco, sex cuz I knew they were wrong and destroy people's lives. I tried sports, activities, reading, riding bicycle but those only made me feel better temporarily and didn't fix my severe depression.
Then I found Internet porn which I thought of as nothing more than a guy thing. Since then, I have been self-medicating with porn whenever I am stressed/depressed. In another words, I became addicted.
Can anyone familiar with my problem offer me advic

As a therapist (in training) I would offer this bit of advice. Examine why you might have been depressed? Think wholistically. What are issues going on in your life? Family, friends, relationships, school, career, etc. Perhaps if you can help identify and work through the underlying issue of depression, the subsequent addiction may subside.

Just from your post I can see many strengths! You are willing, and have the drive (motivation) to change. That's amazingly powerful and you can make greater achievements simply because you have the self motivation. You also do not want to self-medicate or rx-medicate. That's also a great strength. This will help allow you to process why you may be experiencing depression, with a clear head (how can you self-examine when you are high or drunk?).
However, sometimes medication (perscribed.... not self-medicated such as alcohol, drugs, etc.) can really help, and help some people get to a more rational-mind-frame to better aid their self-exploration. Hope that helped in some small way!

Good luck! And know you are not the only one.

How to avoid porn addiction on the Internet

1. Consider installing porn content filtering software( Strongly Recommend NetDog ,you can get it from www.netdogsoft.com ) on your computer. it will help to protect you from stumbling into pornography by accident, That's important.

2. Do not try to guess what the address of a Web page is. Many pornographic sites have similar addresses of respectable sites. For example www . whitehouse . com is a porn site. The real address is www. whitehouse . gov

3. Never click on Web site addresses that you receive in an unsolicited email.

4. Do not open attachments that come in email that are unsolicited.

5. Use filtered search engines or reputable directories to find the information you need.

6. Do not search for terms like girls. Think before you enter a search term.

Stick with reputable sites.
If something looks questionable, don't let curiosity get the best of you. Delete it or close the window.

Well personally I don't have a porn/masturbation problem but I think that if you keep yourself away from the computer and keep yourself from masturbating long enough to tell your body that you don't need it, it might just work. When you're trying to keep yourself away from it, tell yourself that it's a serious problem that needs to be solved and that if it doesn't get solved that it could turn out like alcohol, drugs and tobacco. Tell yourself that it could mess up your life just the same as drugs and nicotine. Addictions to about anything can be considered a drug if its uncontrollable. Try to talk to a counselor or a friend or someone you trust very much.

you just need to find a new stress reliever when you are able to focus on something the feelings of depression are no longer there because your mind is occupied try reading and immerse yourself in the story line try reading action adventure novels by Matt Reilly like ice station or Temple or scarecrow all great books so fast paced you cant put them down, and i am not sure if you are a religious person but the power of prayer is remarkable get yourself involved with a church group

Write music. Write the **** out of music. Lyrics, songs, whatever. Trust me it worked with me during depression. Even if you think you can't write start. You will get better and better at it. Listen to music a lot too. One addiction is usually displaced by another, so it could be eating next unless you find the source of your problem.
