I think you have to decide what you really want to do as you only do this once. We just got married in Vegas in September and it was fantastic - we got married at the Bellagio, on their terrace overlooking the lake. It was a wonderful ceremony and very romantic.
But the choice is pretty overwhelming - you can get married at any of 71 chapels, and have an Elvis wedding at most of them. Or a pirate ship wedding, or a Rocky Horror Wedding, or a limo wedding... the choice goes on and on.
It's your day. It can be as informal or traditional as you want. The website below lets you check out all the chapels in Vegas, and lets you search every available wedding cermeony by cost and theme/traditional. I'd also recommend the book 'Neon Nuptials' (available via Amazon) which has very honest reviews of each venue.
Good luck - I hope you find what you want.

Girrrrrl.
My boyfriend and I used to ALWAYS kid around about flying to Vegas and getting married.
But be realistic here. You have to be engaged first and let your families know. Once that is done, you can do whatever the hell you want LOL.
I could care less about a traditional wedding. Someday, I would actually consider going to Vegas. I want to be married by Elvis. My boyfriend/fiance wants to get married by Shaft. LOL.
And ignore the person above me. Don't let some stupid wedding be about how much you are worth. I'd rather put thousands of dollars into a new house than some celebration that only lasts one day........

Honestly... this is the day in your life which you will remember forever (second to the birth of your first child). You always have the option to do crazy and fun things with your (soon-to-be) husband. If you have dreamed of a wedding, you must ask yourself - will you regret it? My wife and I went through this SAME situation - actually we were wanting to do a drive-thru wedding in Vegas. But then we realized that it is more important to really enjoy the day. We still eloped, but we had a ceremony 6 months later where everyone could come and bless us.

I got married in Vegas at the Little Chapel of the West across from Mandalay Bay, and it was beautiful, meaningful, and inexpensive. We got the BEST pictures!!!
Anyway, we were going to get married at the Venetian, have our reception at Bouchon, and an after-party at Tao. I am so glad we just got married at LCOW. We got to enjoy "our" day, together...and it was awesome!! Don't think you are cutting yourself short..I always wanted a big wedding, but I'm glad we did it this way and I don't feel like I missed anything.

I think it's only as "corny" as you yourself feel it is. There's nothing objectively wrong with being married by whomever you feel like it, be it Elvis, Yoda or the first man in space. But don't do it if it doesn't feel right to you - if you would rather do something else. (My husband and I had a pirate-themed wedding, and were married by a pirate; it was a blast, everyone had fun, we had period music and a blackpowder cannon salute after the ceremony.)

I think it's corny to do it that way, but couldn't you marry in Vegas somewhere tastefully, then stick around for all the fun?

If that is what you both want go for it. Marriage isn't about where you marry, it is who you marry and if you are happy.
