Sad no like Shoemaker breaking Longdens record or Pincay passing Shoemaker it is a day to remember a life time accomplishment.Records are made to be broken it does not mean Baze is a better jockey he will be the first to say what a honor it is to be in a class with greats, Pincay,Shoemaker and Longden.Remember someone well come along and set anew record after Baze.Russell is an extremely talented jockey who has worked very hard to set this lifetime win record it is something to see and remember and i an sure Laffitt will wish Russell the best in future and congratulate him on his achievement.

Russell is a great jockey and I wish him well, but you can't tell me he has run against the kind of competition that Pincay did. They run decent races in the Bay Area, but it's hard to imagine Baze could've put those kind of numbers running in So Cal, New York or Kentucky. Don't get me wrong, a win is a win and I don't think there's any asterisk to be attached other than to say that getting the most wins doesn't mean he's the best ever. A Hall of Famer definitely, but not the best of all time.

Records are made to be broken, and I think that Laffit Pincay is probably okay with Russell Baze breaking his record. Baze is a good guy and a very fine, underrated jockey.

I just wish people outside the horse racing fraternity understood how hard it is to break such a record. Jockeys put themselves in danger every time they go to post. All of them know that disabling injury and possible death can happen at any time. To ride over 9,500 winners requires skill, good healing from the inevitable falls, and just plain LUCK.

Just because BAZE rides as many or more horses than PINCAY JR., doesn't mean he'll be respected more.

No, it won't be sad at all. Okay, maybe for the previous record holder. 32 years of hard and dangerous work that is subject to intense criticism from a lot of different sources cannot easily be dismissed. I think that Russell has earned all of his stripes (and broken bones) and shame on those who attempt to tear him down. This reminds me of John Elway (Quarterback Extraordinaire) and we all know that he retired a "King" of his field, as will Russell (Jockey Extraordinaire). King Russell, I like the sound of that.
