Many tout that we should end illegal immigration. Since we depend on illegal immigration for cheap labor to build our infrastructure, pick our fruit, serve our food, etc....and since it is a fact that if that cheap labor pool disappears prices will skyrocket and markets will crash, how do you suggest we end illegal immigration without destroying our own economy?

I think we should create a North American common market like Europe has and simply let citizens of the member nations (Canada, USA, Mexico, and other Central American countries) move back and forth freely to work wherever they are needed.

The ECU is doing this and now its currency, the Euro, is stronger than the dollar. Nations who used to fight each other now cooperate to build a strong economy.

economy like or not benefits from this immigration because they pay in social security and medicare taxes with their fake social security cards. If we deport all 12 million, which I don't think will occur, the GDP will contract 15% to 20% in a couple year span. The prices on basic commodities like food would go up 10% range, and housing would suffer from a lack of workers that would drive up labor costs to build homes, and bottle neck distribution of materials. In addition, Mexican economy would collapse as would ours since money flows are in the hundreds of billion in both directions yearly. Cutting immigration and trade from Mexico like cutting off growing trade that is more profitable to the Untied States than all of Europe combined. A lot of natives would lose jobs at banks, and financial institutions that deal with lending, and money transfers to between Mexico and Untied States would grind to a halt as would capital investments. Your looking at great depression said and done cutting out 12 million people, and also affecting workers that are naturalized citizens too that depend on Mexican consumers for goods. In 1930 the Smoot Hartey act raised tariffs on goods and other countries returned the favor and production plummeted that what would occur here also. Want the economy to lose 3 trillion in output but do not scream at me when you lose a job. The shocks in the ecomony would be felt hardest on the poorest workers that were American citizens who would have to cut back on comsumption of produce, food.

Deport anyone who commits a serious crime (crossing the border for a better life is not a serious crime). Put pressure on Mexico to FIX THEIR problems without sending people here. Then.....

Open the Borders. If we don't CALL it illegal to come here it isn't!
As long as somebody who comes here WANTS to work I have no problem with it. I have known MANY immigrants. EVERY SINGLE ONE I have known has given more to this country than they have taken.

Make Mexico a part of the United States. The economy would boom with all of the work cleaning up the cities in Mexico.

So your argument is that if apples go up 4 cents our economy will collapse. I don't see it!

If an illegal worker picks 500 apples an hour for $5 an hour, the cost to pick is 1 cent per apple. So if an American (and for the sake of your argument we'll say he is lazy and doesn't work as hard...just for the sake of your argument.) picks 200 apples an hour for $10 an hour, the cost to pick the apple would be 5 cents.

Swap apples for hotel sheets, or restaurant dishes and the math is about the same.

How bout we don't let them have homes or apartments w/o having been born here? Or how about not letting them in w/o having been born here???? i mean come on anyone can get a green card and anyone just happens to be able to buy a house any day. so the less we house them the less immigration we may have but im not too sure how we will do that w/o destroying our economy.
