I paid 175 for my 87 celica, and when I got it home I pulled the engine, because I was going to rebuild it with a new ring and gasket kit, Once I pulled the A/C compressor I found a big hole straight through the block. I don't think yours is this bad, but It may need a new timing belt, you are lucky that these aren't interference type engines, because if it was you would have ruined the valves by cranking it with a broken timing belt. Then again it could be you aren't getting any spark... Who knows? Always check for suck, squish, bang, and blow.

We used to own one too and it became a part of the family now it won't work. Because it is rear wheel drive it could be a drift car with a new motor did you think to advertize it that way? Non running 23 year old cars are not worth to much
