If your dog is 8 years old & has never been bred before, it is very dangerous to do so now... the puppies will likely not survive, or may be malformed, small litter, etc. There is also a great likelyhood of complications during the pregnancy.
Depending on the breed, some dogs can be bred at 8-9 years of age, IF they have been bred consistently before. The oldest age any dog should have ther first litter, however, is 4 years.
As for the actual question you asked, first she must come into heat. Most will begin to swell behind, under the tail, & then 1-2 days later will begin bleeding. (a silent heat can occur where there is no bleeding) Once she comes into heat, you need to have hormone levels checked through a blood draw @ your vet's office. When the levels spike, that lets you know that she ovulated. (this usually happens 10-14 days from the start of her heat cycle)
Approximately 2 days after the blood draw shows the levels have spiked is when she will be receptive for mating (although not always, my last mating had to be postponed 2 days). Until this time, she likely wont let a male mount her, but when the time is right, will be more than willing.
Most matings are done twice, two days apart, sometimes 3 if she is still very willing to stand.

If your dog is 8 years old why is now that your thinking about breeding her? Where were you when she was 3 or 4 or 5? Please dont put her through a first pregnancy at the age of 8 you may lose the pups and perhaps even her.

I am not sure, are you saying your dog is eight yrs old or that you are? A dog should not be bred in their first heat, but your dog may be better off being spayed. I have three females and all of them are spayed and they are very happy and healthy. There are so many unwanted dogs and cats that don't even get a chance to find a home, I think the more that are spayed the better. All three of mine are rescues who would have been put to sleep. They are beautiful dogs as are others. Animal shelters screen people when placing their dogs but still there is no guarantee they will end up in a good home. For the three I rescued thousands did not survive. I am pro-spaying. GL with your dog!

8 yrs is really too old to start breeding; it will take a lot out of the Mom, not to mention that at this stage, she may not be a good one to care for the pups; you could risk losing her and/or the pups; if you love her, enjoy her and forget breeding. The risk to her health is just not worth it.

Yeah, I think she is getting to old to breed. I'd say their prime years (where breeding is concerned) is 2-5 years.

The dog is 8 years old? She'd probly have too many complications if this was her first pregnancy.
Did you mean 8 months or weeks? She can get pregnant as early as her first heat, but it is better for the dog to wait til at least the 3rd or 4th heat.
Please make sure these puppies will have good homes BEFORE you mate her.

you should shop them separate the full time. i'm happy you're actually not attempting to mate her her first warmth. you likely shouldn't enable her mate in any respect because of the fact it does not sound such as you're, we would desire to declare, a expert breeder. I strongly advise you detect a low value spay sanatorium or something - that's a brilliant discomfort in the tush to have a woman in warmth - the only one I ever had - canines have been parked exterior my homestead for days! in case you have a non-neutered male then that's a brilliant hazard for a slip up and you will have the cost of doggies. that's greater low value to get her fastened. My cat had a similar issue - she grew to become into an indoor cat so when you consider that I had little $ on the time had not had her fastened. properly - as quickly as I left for a weekend - she ran exterior whilst the puppy-sitter got here and we had kittens - by ability of emergency c-area. value me so lots greater! shop your self the headache. Get her spayed as quickly as she is out of warmth.

IF YOUR DOG IS 8 YEARS OLD YOU SHOULD NOT EVEN CONSIDER BREEDING HER AS WITH PEOPLE SERIOUS COMPLICATIONS CAN ARISE WITH AN OLDER DOG. YOU EVEN RISK LOSING YOUR DOG IF BRED AT THIS AGE.
