It is a fine line between embracing religion in private and embracing it in public. I teach in a public school. Some elementary schools feature Holiday ( not Christmas ) songs from other cultures, such as Jewish, Islam, Hispanic and even Russian. We have a large Russian Orthodox population in parts of Oregon. I don't have a problem with that. Inclusion is fine. It does seem to be an over reaction when Christ in the manger scenes cannot be displayed on public property downtown. I grew up seeing these. What can be the harm? The money we use has " In God We Trust " printed on it. Sometimes the pendulum swings to far to one side.

The Religious Right and Christian 'moral majority' are a powerful lobby in the US. The helped Bush to power 6 years ago. The US is, indeed a Christian country, but not in the sense of the intended purposes that Christianity was founded.
Belief in God, whether it be a Jewish, Islamic or Christian one, is a personal thing and I don't see why a public declaration of a personal belief should be foisted on anyone, in any fashion.
Worship at home, in church, but not in shopping malls or parks.

Okay, that's a really good question! The country was founded based on the right to have freedom of religion, and yet so many of our historical places have Christian displays on or near them, etc. It's like...our founders wanted freedom but yet they were all Christians for the most part, so in truth they sort of imposed that onto anyone who wasn't Christian. I don't know if I really have a good answer, but either way, the way that people of all religions continue to fight about it bothers me. That's part of the reason why I declared myself to be a Christian Anarchist. If you haven't looked at that link I have yet, it fits me pretty well.

Seperation of church and state, means no one religion gets favor over another. As soon as there is a government mandated religion here, you will have a valid point. And Christianity does not get more scrutiny, by any means. It just has a lot more people crying persecution when things don't turn out their way.

America's forefathers were Deists as they believed in the moral teachings of the Bible, but not the miracles, such as the virgin birth and creation.
Besides, why do Christians need any recognition by government? It's not as if human governments are going to be around after the last days.

Christianity in the US has long had special priviledges in public displays of their religion. That is changing, and that's appropriate.
This is not a "Christian" nation - it was not set up to be one, and WAS set up to avoid having a state-sponsored or supported religion.

America is not a 'Christian' country. The founding fathers were very careful in their wording of the Constitution so this would not be the case.
America is for ANY religion, ANY race, ANY freedom-loving person.
It's because that many christians BELIEVE that America is a christian country that they complain when things don't go in their favor.

It's not a "Christian" country. Look up the Treaty of Tripoli. Most Christians prefer to pretend that it doesn't exist.

We were told in the scriptues and thru modern prophets that the christian religion will be persecuted greatly before the second coming. This aint nothing like what will be coming our way.
