When I was in college, a girl tried to commit suicide shortly after I broke up with her. It's a long story. The short version is that I broke up with her and then she started stalking me. I told her in no uncertain terms to leave me alone. About three weeks later, I heard about the suicide attempt.

No I haven't meet anyone although the ones that threaten to kill them selves are not the ones that actually do it, unless they are ill.
I certainly would never stay with anyone unstable enough to tell me that is what they would do if I left.
It may sound hard but blackmail is also cruel, however much heartbreak anyone is going through.
I would never think of suicide myself because I would not put my family through the pain.

It is definetly not uncommon. People who break up with their boyfriend or girlfriend has sadly, had their heart permanetly broken. The people who are most likely to commit suicide after a break up are people who are in the age range of eighteen to twenty-one. I hope this has answered your question, have a good day.

Yes I known someone who commited suicide after a breakup. She's currently in her grave. As for me, I try to kill myself once because my heart couldn't handle it. In my opinion now, he wasn't worth killing myself over. He wasn't going to die when I kill myself. He might be sad for a second and move on with his life.

Yes and it's because they were mentally ill in the first place. It's also a common ploy of emotional blackmailers and if it's the only reason you stay with someone, you're committing slow suicide yourself. We are all responsible for our own actions and reactions - we can't take on the responsibility for someone else's disregard for their own life, just because they have become obsessed with us. Be kind - but be firm - if he/ she can't live without you, they'll never be able to live with you, because you can't supply what they need - you're only mortal.

No, but that's a really unhealthy way to handle a breakup.

A lot of people threaten this but do not carry it through. Sometimes it's emotional blackmail to try and get the other person to stay with them.

Yes - Many years ago. I still think about him and realized that he was clinically depressed.

If you know someone like this, please intervene. He was far to young to die, especially over something every one of us experiences in life.
