It is not that hard to find apartments that take pets. There are some that don't, and some that have weight restrictions.

You might want to look at some of the neighborhoods that either have good dog runs or are within dog walking distance of Central Park or Riverside Park or Prospect Park (Brooklyn).

Urban Hound has a list of all the dog runs: www.urbanhound.com

I've never had to pay a deposit for a dog, but I have heard of the practice. The best thing is to either work with a dog friendly realtor or search on Craigslist for apartments that are "dogs allowed."

I think this is actually a really good city to have a dog. There is lots of social activities for dogs...it is not just about sitting in a backyard all alone!

Most places allow dogs...studios range from $1,500 a month in manhattan to about $2,500.....i lived in ny my whole life...why would you want to be so cruel to your dog as to move her/him into an apartment...let your dog run free in CA...
