He is an adorable dog But he has this horrible habit and its macking a mess of our fences .,We are renting this property and am desperate to find out how to stop him.

spay some type of oil on the fences, where when he smells this he will leave it alone. Bitter apple does not help we have a Jack Russell and tried it, to our astonihment, he liked the taste of it.

some dogs have a licking disorder as does my doberman we took her to the vet and is now on steroids to help with this problem which works but the amount needs to be adjusted because it causes her to leak uncontrollably so we reduced the amount by cutting the pill in 1/2 it seems to work good luck

Smear something that tastes like crap on the fences... like brussels sprouts.
Then SUE your landlord for letting you live in a house with asbestos.

Try spraying "Bitter Apple" on the areas he's licking - it can be found at pet supply places, I think Target has it as well.
