Back when Jews were a tribe, they carried
god in a box on two poles. They called this
box an Ark or Covenant. When they fought
opposing tribes, this god was on their side.

The story goes that if any man touched the
Ark, he would die instantly. And, scriptures
claim this did happen on one occasion. The
box was about to fall. A Jew grabbed the
sliding Ark, and died on the spot.

One night, an enemy tribe stole the Ark to
have god on their side. They touched the
box. Poked the box. Opened the box.
Nothing happened. No one died.

The only power any superstition holds, is
our belief in it.

Today, people still seek to put God in a box.
Religions put God in a designated temple.
Atheists confine God to a box by declaring
there is no God.

Still, life continues to bloom like so many
roses amid the thorns. Invisible forces
govern complex genetics from the tiny flea
to the giant star. And God remains the
promise of tomorrow. A day we have never
seen before.

And that promise extends to all, the believer
and the non-believer alike.

You can probably have a better relationship with Father God and His son Jesus, without religion. It works for me all the time. I found that doctrine and dogma got in the way of understanding. I read James and decided to ask Father God. Now I have faith that has been unshakeable for years and believe me, when I say, satan has definitely tried.

If God hasnt revealed himself to mankind, then no, none of the religions are adequate. But if Jesus came to give us the truth and salvation, we need to follow him and join his church!

Jesus used the word church 2 times.

1. Once to tell Peter that he would be involved with the building of the church (Matthw 16:18)

2. To instruct people how to deal with a believer that wont confess his sin. (Matthew 18:17)

Jesus never said our church is within us. That is more a gnostic belief and for people that want to try to get out of going to church and giving back to God. That simply isnt Biblical

On the other hand, the church is very Biblical.

Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age." -Matthew 28:19-20

Do other organizations out there make disciples of Jesus other than churches? baptize new believers? Bible teaching?

Gods will is done through todays church. Some of them may be corrupt, but that is our challenge is to make church a great place where Gods will is done, we fellowship with one another, we worship together, give back to God, take communion, make new believers, and take care of peoples needs. How does all that stuff get done "within you?"

Let us not give up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but let us encourage one another—and all the more as you see the Day approaching. -Hebrews 10:25

If you believe in god then presumably you believe that he/she/it is real, universal, eternal etc.

Religions are man-made entities and clearly aren't universal and definitely not eternal. Even the very concept of religion is a human construct.

So it is pretty obvious you don't need to buy into all the baggage of religion to believe in god or just 'something bigger' beyond the horizon of our life.

(Interesting footnote: the word 'heresy' comes from a greek root meaning 'to choose'. So the very power which supposedly makes humans special, the power to choose, is that which is attacked by religious dogma and fear of heresy.)

Study Islam. If ANYTHING appears unnatural or non-sensical to you (provided you study it without any prejudices) ask a fellow muslim. After your research if you are unsatisfied about Islam being the most simple and straightforward religion that has a natural appeal then tell me about your doubts.

In essence, just find out what does the word Islam mean itself, and how is the name of this religion different from others. That will be an excellent start.

Obviously enough, I am implying that Islam _is_ the most simple and straightforward path to God.

All the best!

I have to laugh at all these people who think Jesus is the be all and and all. Jesus' life has so many similarities to the life of Krishna, so much so i doubt the authenticity of Jesus' existence (Krishna lived thousands of years before Jesus)

Anyway to answer your question, you do not have to follow a religion to believe in God. Anyone with any common sense will know we were created by something greater than us- That something greater than us, our creator, is God.

I don't believe that you need to follow a religion at all. As long as you believe in god and or Jesus then I think you'll still make it to heaven. I heard somewhere if you have three or more people fall in love then you got it made ;)

Of course. God is not a religion. God is part of everything. Of course you can believe in a higher being without the minor bits. sorry if that was kind of preacher-ish.
