Get him some models to put together
like cars or trucks, Dino's and other animals
board games are great
also they now have science experiments from national geographic that are way cool
ant farms and butterfly habitats(you send away for the self contained caterpillars) are cool also
that's what I'm getting my nephew who will be eight

Try one of those games, where HE can make something grow, such as sea monkies, or something he can do with his hands that will take time and patience to build. Not legos, those are boring along with tinker toys
