I have worked with domestic birds (pet birds) and wild birds for many years.

It is possible that your parakeet who has lost its feathers is extremely stressed since the other one is mean to it.

When a parakeet or bird is stressed they become feather plucker's and will pluck out their feathers as this becomes a habit for nervous or stressed birds.

You also mentioned the parakeet looks skinny. This is also the result that it is unable to eat it's proper amount of seeds due to the other bird being mean or more dominant.

I would highly recommend that you separate these two parakeets immediately. This will allow the one parakeet to grow it's feathers back and gain some weight.

A good tip: If you think one of your birds are under weight, use your index finger and palpitate around it's breast bone. when you locate the breast bone, move your finger to the sides just below the breast bone. If you feel the actual soft bone plate and no meaty area on either side of it's breast bone, then your bird is very under weight.

I would suggest you go to your local pet store and purchase some vitamin supplements. The best supplements are the powdered kind that you can sprinkle on top of the bird's seeds. This will guarentee that the bird will get these extra vitamins it needs. The type of vitamins that goes in the water is no good as the water spoils faster and most birds do not like to drink water with the supplements in it.

Hope this helps :-)

I see some people said, multing, RONG! sorry, LOL birds don't lose like that while multing. If he's not acting any differant he prob not sick, sick birds are weak and will fight it out till the death as much as they can, but it's to hard for a bird not to show. Sick birds will go to the cage floor and sit in the corner, or warmest spot they can find. BUT you said it's NOT acting differant, so it might be that the two are fighting, ME, as a bird raiser since before age 2, and my dad a breeder all his life, plus threw veternary school, HATES when people put two birds in a cage together. It works sometimes, but if you have two males they fight, two females they fight, or a male and a female they breed. that's in most cases not all, don't take it the rong way. If you have two males seperate, the more masculant one will kill the other, forbid it from THERE food, and THERE water, and THERE peerch, and THERE toy, and THERE mirrow. two females, same thing, and for a male and a female if that's your case, they don't want to mate, and are just not compatable, they'll kill each other, well...wich ever comes first. You should seperate! If you don't have a cage, buy one. (that's an EXTRA cage) lol. if you need anyhelp or more questions, or anything at all to do with your sweet lil' birds, or any animal you can e-mail me at sidesadle11@yahoo.com
good luck, best of wishes, and hope i helped out1 :)

Yes, you should separate them if one is picking on the other.

Your blue parakeet may be molting but you'll only know that by separating them and giving the poor little guy a break.

Yes you should seperate them. Sounds like the yellow one is a little too mean.

we just got a new budgie. the female (old one) pecks at him sometimes. we have two feeders in their cage. the blue one could be just molting. our female was bald on her head for a while she was rubbing her head on something, but she was going throught the molt at the same time. i would put another feeder in and take the yellow one out and then let the blue one eat.

the birds should be seperated if they bully each other. my bird has patches too. it might be because of moulting but it should not get too skinny. you must seperate them fast. it also might be skinny bcos the yellow one is depriving the blue one of its food.
