no keep it the same. the confirmation name should be picked from a saint. search for a saint that you like so it can have more meaning to you. such as one you feel relates to you or that impressed you with their life and what they did in gods name. but all your other names will remain the same. good luck, hope this helps. you can find a list of saints in any catholic website, just google catholic and look around.

There are several ways...
Your Spiritual Director can choose one for you, based on your attrait (your spiritual attributes).
You can choose your own, based on your particular favorite saint.
You can look at the date for your upcoming Confirmation and pick the saint for that day...i.e., if your Confirmation was today - you *could* choose "Homobonus" as your Confirmation name - I'm not kidding - today is the feast of St. Homobonus!) ;-D

No - you don't change your middle name - you just get another added on.
Blessings!

When I was Catholic, and made my confirmation, we were allowed to pick the name of any saint we chose. I picked Bernadette, mostly because I like that name and her story was 'cool' at that time in my life. We did not give up our middle name - just added the new name. Different churches may do it differently, I have heard some pick for you- ours stressed that it had to be the name of a saint and we had to know something about that saint.
I have since, however, reliquished that name as I am no longer Catholic and hold on to no unbiblical Catholic traditions.

The confirmation name is just a name to use for confirmation. Even though I am a female, I chose the name Stephen, for St. Stephen, because he was born on my birthday. He was also a martyr, and I swear, the way my life has been up until now, I'm one too.

You keep your middle name. You add your confirmation name, but really don't use it. You're supposed to pick the name of a saint that you want to live your life like.

Dear Mel,
I do not know if you know this or not but the church age is over! It ended in 1988. The Holy Spirit has departed from ALL local congregations and so going through this "tradition" is vain. Mel, one received the Holy Ghost when one is born again or saved (Ephesians 1:12-14). You do not receive the Holy Spirit by someone laying their hands on you! The fact of the matter is that if you continue to attend church, you are disobeying the Lord. Please read 2 Thessalonians 2 and Matthew 24:15, 16. And I do not want to alarm you but those who remain in the local congregations (churches) are under the wrath of God. We read in Revelation 18:4 that the true believers are to leave the local church because they have become Babylon. This means that satan is now ruling in the local churches. As you continue to read Revelation 18, God tells us that ye shall no longer hear the voice of the bride or bridegroom. This is parabolic language telling us that the Lord is no longer there (bridegroom) nor the bride (believers). As you read 2 Thessalonians 2 yo will find that God is sending those who remain there (in the churches) a strong delusion so that they will go to hell. Please take a look at the Scriptures I have listed for you.

No, it is just a formality. It doesn't go on your birth certificate or anything like that. When people ask for my full name I do not include the name I took at confirmation.

It is most common not to drop your original middle name but to add a Christian name to it. A Bible concordance has a glossary in the back of which, if a good one, has all of God's favorite names. Good luck and God Bless!!
