my three-year-old loves the show charlie and lola on disney channel- and she's taken on the accent!! My husband has been calling her Madonna. Every time I tell her to stop talking like that, she looks at me like I'm weird!!! lol There's nothing wrong with having an accent, it's just SHE DOESN'T REALLY HAVE ONE and it's kind of funny for her to speak with it! I'm at my wit's end- WHAT DO I DO?

well, this is kinda funny because for fun sometimes me and my hubby talk like we have an English accent. the funny part is once you start, it kinda gets stuck in your head, and it is hard to stop talking like that. I would think that she hears it and just gets stuck talking like that. You are not born with an accent. you get it from what you hear alot of. You can be born in an area with one accent, and then more to an area that has a different accent and learn it. It is what you hear, and how you learn how to pronounce things. Just take it as funny, mabey try it yourself sometime, and see how it gets stuck. She will grow out of the show, and eventually quite. good luck until then.

Just a phase let it pass, a small child will simply forget about it soon enough.

Look on the bright side: if she's doing a great job at it like you say maybe a future as some sort of entertainer? Or as a linguist or some sort of professor of languages?

I have to admit, when I am around people with accents, I unconsciously start talking a bit like them. In the grand scheme of things, at least she is doing something innocent, and she isnt trying to light the dog on fire or something. She will outgrow it. In the meantime, videotape or record as much of it as you can, she will think it is hilarious once she grows up.

actually, she does really have one, children at that age, pick up accents around them, not just from their parents,,,,, if you took her to england during the early, birth to 6 or 7 years old age, she would speak like the british,,,,

most likely what you find, is she will move back and forth between accents, and most likely doesnt even realize she does it, just like children raised in a home with several languages, that is why she looks at you weird , she most likely doesnt even know what an accent really is,,,,,,she just copies what she hears all around her

Ha ha, I think that is pretty funny, I also think that is very creative and brilliant. Don't worry, for the most part she's playing and being imaginative, she'll move on to something else eventually. So--enjoy it for what it is. You could also just explain to her what an accent is.

Just think she is only three and imitating accents. Most three year olds are just starting to form sentence. Not many have the ability to copy accents. Let her do it. Let her enjoy it and don't be mad or upset be amazed.

You could tell her she's not allowed to watch the show anymore. Or you could pretend you don't understand her whenever she uses the accent. But it's probably better to let it go. My brother loved Dukes of Hazzard when he was little, and talked in a fake southern drawl. It drove my parents nuts but he stopped doing it on his own.

i know it must be annoying... but its just so cute!!! she'll grow out of it soon enough. don't worry about it! is she at nursery yet? if not she'll pick up the accents from the kids around her when she starts going... unless of course they all watch charlie and lola and have been afflicted in the same way too!!

she'll grow out of it! enjoy it! have fun with it! when i was a kid i insisted that my parents call me amy. i would not answer to my given name no matter how much they called it. only amy. i now go by my real name and have since about three months after i decided i was goingto be amy. it's a phase. don't stress the little stuff!

and speaking of madonna... i specifically remember when i was four i tried to wear my underwear on the outside of my pants to school and when my mom told me i couldn't do that i said "why not? madonna does it" !!! kids are hilarious!

My brother picked up some patrician "planters," accent in Memphis at age 30. He won't give it up. We are Irish peasant stock and as far as I know we have never had a plantation.
