really a Yankee lol! We develop lots of watermelons right here in TX and we do not enable any of them climb up. all of them stay down on the floor because they are HEAVY and that that that they had tear the vine up. Gram used to positioned somewhat of cardboard less than each and each and every fruit to ward off some variety of worms. A farmer I heard of took a needle & thread and drew it through the watermelon plant close to its beginning. Then he'd set a touch cup of sugar water through the thread and soak the thread contained in the water. it is meant to make sweeter fruit. TX mom
