Heaping means to leave as much as will stay in a spoon without falling off the sides when held level. For example a heaping spoonful of sugar would form a small cone of sugar above the rim of the spoon. You couldn't do this with a liquid, only dry or thick substances. A level spoonful is when you fill a spoon with a dry or thick substance and then drag it under a straight edge to knock off all that rises above the rim of the spoon.

It would mean to dig spoon into the ingredient and just lift out and what stays on the spoon is the amount.A recipe when it calls for a teaspoon that would mean that you take a knife and level the top off before adding to the recipe..Heaping means Full Piled High.....

Rounded, over the top. As in a "heaping teaspoon", which would be a teaspoon filled, but just a little bit over-filled.

When a recipe tells you to add a teaspoon, they mean a level teaspoon or as close to it as you can get. When they say a heaping teaspoon, they mean a mountainous teaspoon. Hope this clears up any problems.

If you were measuring a 'heaping' teaspoon, measure out a teaspoon that is rounded at the top so you get a little more than a teaspoon.
