Well his drinking does seem to be very excessive ( by recommended safe standards anyway) & he obviously needs help more than he needs harsh criticism. A lot of drinkers drink to escape reality in a way & its their way of coping with things. Your brother cannot deny to himself or anyone else that its not doing him immense harm & depending on how long this has been going on the damage done may well be too severe to overcome by now. He needs great encouragement to at the very least cut down to a much lower level & to seek help ( which he may already be doing). There are a lot of very good organisations out there who can help, but he may not be in control to take this decision & you must encourage him to accept your help. Its his life & free to use it in whatever way he chooses, but what a waste. Good luck to both of you & I hope that he can overcome his problems

There is a group called Al-Anon for family of alcoholics. They can help you deal with the pain. They are in the phone book, and all over the world.
Whether or not he ever seeks help is up to him. There is nothing you can say or do to get him to stop until he's ready. It is a disease like cancer or Alzheimer's.

If he is an Alcoholic, he will never admit it. He will imagine that he has it all under control and can handle "it" . Nothing will change until he wants it to, and that will always be tomorrow!
