If it's ONLY estrogen, meaning 100% estrogen. It can increase your chances of breast and endometrial cancers. But, if they are in combination with, lets say, estrogen and progesterone, then you'll be okay. Most doctors today do not prescribe only estrogen therapy.

In the dog, an intact female (one that isn't spayed) gets mammary gland cancer very readily. It is from this study that was mainly cited to extrapolate that women exposed to Premarin would get br. Ca. One thing I read several years ago was that for sure Premarin will increase the growth of fibroid tumors on the uterus. And it was reported in another paper that Premarin will increase a woman's risk by .08% of an already rare breast cancer. However the benefits of Premarin in post-menapausal women is legion -- skin does not sag, breasts do not sag, skin remains younger, bone mass tends not to evaporate, tho this is still being studied, she remains stronger, muscle does not turn to fat, as it does in women who have no estrogen in their system. Vaginal tissue remains thick, mental alertness is higher in women on estrogen, hot flashes don't happen, digestion is better, bowel function is better..... etc., etc. Everything is a trade off
