Do not turn away gifts. Accept them and send a thank you. If you do not want the gifts, I would suggest donating them to a local shelter of sorts, maybe a domestic abuse one. Or a homeless shelter around Christmas time.
It is tacky to request no gifts, but by word of mouth you can specify that they donate the money to a worthy cause, or register for a honeymoon instead of gifts, that way guests can help to pay for that.
Inevitably you will get gifts, be gracious and thankful.

Relatives just feel inappropriate not giving anything, it's in their blood! You could ask everyone to just write a check directly to the charity of your choice, and either send it to you, or put it in a little mailbox type of thing at your wedding, or a variation on that idea. You could also register somewhere, if you feel that your relatives will not listen to your charity idea, as I know mine wouldn't, and then return whatever they brought and donate that money to charity. But make sure that store will give you your money back, not just store credit. I know that may sound a bit complicated, but if you really don't want them to buy you anything, and they won't listen, giving your money to charity is a wonderful way of making something or someone healthier, happier, etc. It might sound a tad bit sneaky, but you're not doing it just for the cash! Lol, you're doing it with the best of intentions. If all else fails, ebay comes in handy. They have a direct-to-charity program, which sometimes even makes people bid more on your auctions. Good luck, and congratulations!

It's too rude to deny gifts, but what you do with them afterwards is up to you. If you don't believe in asking these people for money instead of gifts (which most people could always use a little more of) then why not just sell the things you don't want on ebay afterwards. No one would ever know!! Unless you tell them.

I felt the same way. It's best to register for something than nothing because if you register (like at Target) you can return it rather easily and get store credit or cash instead.
I did that. I got 5 crockpots...!!!
Target accepted all my returns and I had a ton of credit to use at that store for other items (groceries, clothes etc..)
Don't ask for cash, that's tacky. But just register for a few items.
It's worth a look. I thought I had everything I would ever need and when I got in the store to register it was like christmas.. I had always wanted really nice metal mixing bowls but never got around to buying them.. stuff like that that you may want or need but forgot about.

You could register for some fun things that you wouldn't usually buy yourself.
You could always donate or give extra's as gifts but if you have relatives like mine they want to see you using the gifts. So the best is to spread word of mouth. Maybe ask for practical things that you could use up around the house. I know it wouldn't be as much fun but things like toilet paper, cleaners, foil, baggies, etc. That you can use up. I have done fun baskets for people that include those things. Or a cooler with picnic items (paper plates, ketchup, etc.) Register for things like that at Walmart and maybe people will get the hint.

If you don't need anything - you can ask them to donate to a charity of your choice in your name. This gives them a way to give, it gives you a chance to do something for a charity close to your heart, and it gives you a nice tax receipt:)
You could also register for your honeymoon: some travel companies will help you set up a honeymoon register. Guests can contribute to your honey moon by giving money towards your trip, or paying for specific parts of the honeymoon (a dinner, scuba diving, a afternoon at the spa, etc)

What I plan to do is a wedding site where they can give money as a gift so that we can use for our honeymoon. I would explain that we have everything. Congratulations and best wishes

Register at Target....accept the gift, send thank you card, then return it to Target.
Donate the money if you want or pick out something together.

On your invitation you could print something like "No gifts please: your presence at our wedding will be your gift to us." --- if people still get you gift, just accept them gracefully. Do not ask for money instead...
