After having my son (6 years old now) I was left with a lovely parting gift....stretchmarks... on my inner & outter thighs, and above my buttocks. I find them repulsive. Now I know it could be worse, blah blah blah....but I this is bad enough for me. Does anybody know any remedies that actually work? I've heard Coco butter?

Topical lotions won't really help, since most of the redish streaks that you see are actually under the top layer of skin, in the fatty layer. What happens is the skin has to expand rapidly during pregnancy, and this stretching happens so quickly that sections of fatty tissue actually pull apart, giving the stretch marks their appearance and texture. They will fade in time, sometimes even growing a shade lighter than the surrounding skin.

Like baldness "remedies" for men, there are many products on the market that claim to elliminate stretch marks, and they're really effective--at elliminating money from your checkbook. You might try setting up an appointment with a dermatologist, as some stretch marks can be treated via laser, and there's a perscription lotion named Retin-A that can penetrate the skin deeply enough to catch some of the smaller ones, providing that these marks are still pink. Since you stated that you had your son six years ago (congratulations on that, by the way, mom!), I'd serriously doubt that it would work, however.

Sorry I couldn't bring better news!

Stretch marks are formed from the underlying tissues expanding - it's not just the surface of the skin that's stretched, so topical stuff has little or no effect. The coco butter certainly won't hurt, but I doubt it'll make much difference.

Girl, u can try to use those "magic" creams and lotions if u'd like but coming from someone who has had stretch marks since i was 15 i am going to be honest... nothing works!! What i do to hide them a bit is spray tan year long... it helps hide them. Good luck & remember, Real women have stretch marks :)

Unfortunately, I have been to see a plastic surgeon because I was left with not only stretch marks, but also very stretched out skin. His answer to me as well as my dermatologist, that there is absolutely no miracle cream that you can buy that can get rid of stretch marks. After so many months after being stretched out, the skin has retracted as far as it is going to retract, and what you are left with can only be fixed with surgery and skin removal.
