I went to the dentist (a rough older dentist who didn't pay attention to what was going on much) to get my molars filled. I had to get fillings in the upper and lower on my left side. Even after a year and 1/2 I still can't chew harder food on that side. I chew with ease on the right side which still has cavities.
That's not normal is it?
He did tell me in one of my upper molars I may eventually have to have a root canal. But my lower hurts too and I don't get why.
I know I have to go to the dentist again soon for more fillings and to get my wisdom teeth pulled...but defenatly not the same guy...he needs to retire!

This happened to me too my old shitty dentist didn't do a good job, she didn't drill and clean all the decay, now after few years i found a new great dentist, he fixed he said i may have ended up having root canal too, maybe tomorrow, maybe in five years maybe never as long as it doesn't hurt and since he filled my tooth again, he even put some medicine there it doesn't hurt and no problems whatsover! So find a good dentist that's a start! ask your family or friends i am sure somebody knows, that's how i found mine!

It is not unheard of for a filling that is deep to get in contact with the nerve and cause irritation. That sounds like it has happened to you.
No, don't go to a regular dentist for a molar root canal. Go to an endodontist. There are 4 roots that are a lot smaller than the regular teeth and it takes a special hand to get this right without further complications. Most dentists here send patients out like that because it is a lot of work and it doesn't pay if you don't do it regularly.

It sounds to me like you probably need a root canal in both teeth. I have had many fillings that end up needing root canals (I have had 12). Maybe the other dentist didn't get all of the decay out or didn't realize how deep it went. Just find a different dentist and have them take x-rays. Goodluck.

Depends. I got two fillings at once and only one hurt after ward. There maybe an infection or its just pressure on the tooth from the filling. Take some pain killers, mainly ibeprophin. If it still hurts in one week later call ur dentist.

this is to long for pain as any dental pain should not be more then a month at most due to normal healing time
it also sounds like you should find a new dentist fast
also if you are traveling overseas any were you should look into cost there as I had a permanent bridge installed in Ukraine for 300 dollars to fix a missing tooth from childhood here in the USA it was 2400 dollars so payed for my trip and was done as good if not better then here as it was done by an oral surgeon there and he sent the bridge mold was sent to Germany for fabrication
so it took 4 weeks but that was not a problem as i was there for 6 weeks and cost me 2100 total plus the 300 for the bridge so exactly the same price air fare, apt, food and beverage plus some items to take back cost me the same as the dental work here

You're right about the retirement!! Go to a dentist who will listen to you and be gentle. You should not have pain. I have pain sometimes after filings just from the jarrings of the drill. Def see another dentist.
