Many people feel insecure about their own sexuality, and take it out on others to reaffirm their own gender identity.
Bible people, don't quote the Bible at us. There is much more in there about charity and forgiveness than there is about gays, and there are also things that suggest slavery is ok if you read the whole thing instead of just picking and choosing which parts to believe.

Ben ok is splitting hairs and he's many times falsely claiming faith has not something to do with homophobia everybody's meant to have an similar undemanding rights homosexuality isn't a decision yet they'll lie that that is and they are not confident even as lesbians, gays and bisexuals tell them otherwise, mendacity that that is determination potential they could experience okay to be homophobes many imagine marriage is christian it really is also nonsense "gay" replaced right into a time period coined in 1869 so it may't be contained in the bible or a sin, the bible's been mistranslated and misunderstood the bigots make it look like people into an similar gender do not fall in love and characteristic an similar emotions/emotions as heteros edit: i do not see how that is immoral that some everybody is into sex purely edit2: kdanley - necrophilia is non-consensual, sufficient reported edit3: that is not a decision British bigot

First of all, your assumption that homosexuality is "harmless" and "morally neutral" is just that: an assumption, and a false one at that. If you want to get into the gay debate, that's an entirely different issue. What YOU asked is why religious people are so "obsessed" with homosexuality. Two different questions. So I'll explain to you. One, religious people are not "obsessed." It is a growing issue in our society that the Church has a responsibility to address. In case you were unaware, the Church is supposed to play a role in society. It is not to be silenced or censored. It should face the moral issues of the day and give its Biblical interpretation of them. Two, nobody is divided over the issue of child-molestation, or rape, or murder. However, we ARE divided over homosexuality, hence the uproar. I don't see many atheists running through the streets, protesting "Down with murder! Murder is bad!" And neither do religious people, because we all agree: murder is bad. And by the way, in response to another user: we are not trying to legislate morality. If we were, we'd be pushing ANTI-SODOMY LAWS. Did you ever think YOU were the one trying to legislate YOUR beliefs through gay marriage? Of course not, you're an idiot.
Your question, quite frankly, is stupid, and uninformed. Please take your Christian-hating agenda elsewhere.

It is important to note that all christian religion stems from the catholic and that the catholic church has kept most of the same ideals from the moment it was created.
When Catholicism was first made the fact was the hope was that people would have many children, strengthening their numbers and ultimately increasing their strength. This is cathedrals are very large and pretty, to please the common folk into joining their faith. But they also banned things like contraceptives to make people have more children forcing them to increase numbers. Homosexuality clearly does not do this. It (in theory, adoption is a means modern days homosexuals have) stops people from having childre, hence lowering the number of catholics.
Unfortunately these ideal have been passed to most other christian faiths and people now believe something that is never called a sin is a sin (does the ten commandments mention homosexuality? as inin exact like... men cannot commit homosexual acts. Nothing like "Thal shall not steal". So it can be twisted to be just the way the church wants).
People also believe Greece fell due to homosexuality which does not help the equation.
I am not gay but feel it is a natural phenomenon which should not be ignored or fought against, do we fight against people who are tall, Chinese, brown haired?
UPDATE: Adultary is a married person having an affair. Are homosexuals married in the eyes of the church, no! So thi is proving one of my points. The church twists round words to fit what it wants.
It is important to note that I am not trying to agree with gay marage or adoption. I have not answerd that as it was not the question asked. Anyone who brings these topics into their answers is not answering this question unless it is in connection to their faith.
Leroy Johnson (above) is trying to enforce his beleifs onto people, in this day and age most sountries are multi-cultural (if your American, remember most of the people where you live are not origonaly from that area) and this can not be done. Hindus do not eat beef, so how would you feel if they imposed that on you Leroy? Or, you were forced to only eat vegtibals by vegitarians? Or if you are vegitarian you where forced to eat meat?
The fact is you cannot expect people to follow your religious beleifs. We are not all chrisatian. I am not saying people are not aloud their point of view but just "live and let live".
I personaly do not agree with the actions of the catholic church but would never enforce my viewes upon someone. Can chriatians not do the same?

I am thinking that this is another assumption, grouping all christians into an unrealistic mold. Christians that I know are equal opportunity bigots. Any one not in their little clique is wrong. I personally cannot see the neutrallity in homosexuality. It causes much harm. And I believe that the acceptance of immorality leads to this morally skewed worldview.

i dont understand why its such an obsession.
If you think that its immoral fine, that dose not give you the right to legislate your morality to others.
